tonight my mini lop gave birth . i dont know how many she has had as i dont want to disturb her really. this is her first litter and mine:biggrin:, so can anyone give me . advice on what to doand not what to do please, its absolutley wonderful.:party0002:i feel soooooooo happpppyyyyyy:woohoo

You can check on the babies - it's fine. If you are worried about mom lunging at you, you can give her a piece of carrot or another treat to distract her.

It's important to check the babies and take out any DOA's, soiled/bloodied bedding, and any afterbirth.

Many breeders, (including me), will handle kits from the day their born to make them more friendly.

BlueSkyAcresRabbitry has some great advice. However if your doe is not used to you I would wait 48 hrs before touching them. You can move them back into her box if they end up on the floor/wire.

Mom will do most of the work. Keep her food coming and make sure she can eat hay while nursing. (hand a hay feeder up or something). I've had some mothers who never want to leave the box, starving themselves.

when my mini lop gave birth I took the kits out a couple hours after birth, cleaned up the bits of placenta she missed checked on everyone and took pics. I took them out everyday just long enough to make sure they were being fed and that the nest box was clean. I gave Fergie some treats to munch and she was fine. Once their eyes opened up at 11 days I began taking them out for longer periods to handle them and let them explore. Good luck!

You need to check them before 48 hours to make sure they are all alive and remove any kits that have passed away or were born dead.

If you're really worried about mama - you can put a drop of vanilla on her nose (just a teeny tiny drop) above her nose even...and that will knock of her sense of smell a bit and when it comes back - the kits will smell ok to her.

Sorry, my mistake. I was always taught that when the doe is nervous around humans the chances of her kits survival is higher if you don't touch them before 48 hours.
