Sunday afternoon a small fire started in Auburn. Due to the hot temperatures, dry land, and gusty winds it spread fast. It quickly became an emergency. Stores in the area (K-mart, Safeway, etc) were evacuated along with residences. When I last checked, 275-acres had burned with 60 structures destroyed; 50 homes and 10 commercial buildings. It looks like a war zone. The governor of California has visited the wiped out neighborhood.

Firefighting crews have been increased to 621 personnel, 90 engines, 13 handcrews, 18 dozers and 15 water tenders. This morning it's at 50 percent containment, full containment isn't expected until Tuesday. The winds have been blowing the fire away from us, but towards the rabbit rescue I volunteer with. Their power and phone connection was out yesterday until about 8 PM. Thankfully they didn't need to be evacuated, but they were prepared, as were we.

Here are some pictures I got with my cell phone, so the quality is lacking.
We parked by the small lake and watched the helicopters collecting and dumping water.

Wow that is awful. I am glad you and the buns are ok.
I have been wondering about the members down there in Cali with all those fires.

I'm glad you are ok and that the buns are fine too! My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that has been caught in the fires and I hope that it will be all over soon.

That's good that you weren't in the path of the fire. I'm wondering how all the other members in Cali are doing with the fires?
I've been following all the latest about the fires on AOL news. Yesterday spent a good chunk of time just looking at all the pictures and it does look so awful out there.

:hug:and prayers for everyone out there amongst the fires - stay safe!

I've been watching the fires on the news. Is Auburn close to La Crescenta or is this a different fire? Stay safe!!!!

From what I was reading yesterday, I think the fire in Auburn is different than the one near La Crescenta. I think the one near La Crescenta is the Station Fire, which would be different than the one in Auburn ;)

Thank you everyone. Sadly, I just learned that 3 people have been injured in our fire, my thoughts go out to them and all the families affected by the fire. The number of acres burned has been increased to 340, but thankfully it's now 80% contained. This fire (dubbed the 49 Fire) didn't burn that many acres but destroyed many buildings.

Patti, the La Crescenta is a different fire in Southern California.

That's so awful.

:pray:for the families and everyone who is being affected by this fire. I hope everyone stays safe and evactuates when they need to. I read yesterday that about 5 people were trapped in a canyon because they had refused to evacuate; eventually they had to call for help, of course. The article I read said that people need to listen and evacuate; it's not safe sending in rescue personel to go in and save you if you could have already been out of harms way.

Also sending prayers to the families and the rest of the LA firedept. who lost two firefighters on the 30th due to driving over an embankment when they were completely surrounded by flames. So awful.
