so our lease is up march 9th, as many will remember, searching for a bunny-friendly apartment in the traverse city area is next to impossible. our rent goes up close to $75 a month if we renew our lease, so we have to search for a new apartment.
well, yesterday, being my day off, i started to call on places.
i called on 8 different places, 6 out of those 8 had never heard of rabbits as house pets
i swear to god, i spent more time on the phone talking about houserabbits then i did talking about the apartment. . .
"so, what do they eat?"
"how long do they live?"
"in the house? do you let them outside like a dog to go to the bathroom?"
"wait, i don't understand, like a rabbit, IN the house?"
"do they make noise like a cat or a dog? i don't think i have ever heard a rabbit bark before?"
"spayed? you can spay one of those things?"
"you take your rabbit to the vet? why on earth?"
"they like to cuddle? wow, i guess i never thought of that"
"what kind of toys do they play with?"
yes, those are all quotes of the questions they had, i talked with one lady for a 1/2 hour about nothing more then houserabbits, too bad she had already rented out the apartment she had. . . as she would have totally allowed winnie. . . aw shucks. . .
anyway, i got a kick out of it. . .
people seem more 'open' to the idea of a house rabbit this time around, so far, i think it is because the economy up here is so bad, they just want to get renters to fill in the empty apartment so they don't lose money.
but i tell ya' some of the questions i got were downright funny, i had to keep myself from laughing.
