This is our chicken Gloria. She's so perfect in every way. I was with my brother training horses at some people's farm and we heard a rooster start crowing and he was like '' oh you have chickens?'' and they were like ''yeah'' and MAtt says '' Selling any?'' and she's like '' you can have one''. So I took baby Gloria home last summer. She lays eggs now. They are green.

I'm pretty sure she's a purebred chicken, as she was ordered out of one of those chicken catalogs. But I've searched the internet all over and I really just have no idea. So....lets play the what breed is my chicken game.

I have a friend who has lots of different breeds and adores chickens, so I've just emailed the photo to her. I'll let you know what she says.

Ditto that! :bunnyheart

Heres from that article

The Easter Egg Chicken is not an actual breed; the term refers to any bird that lays colored eggs. The vast majority of birds sold as "Araucanas" or "Ameraucanas" are actually neither. Instead, they are mixed breeds with no APA (American Poultry Association) Standard that lay colored eggs, ranging from bluish and greenish to pinkish-brown, and sometimes even tan, gray or white

Isn't that a Bantam (Banty)?

I buy real eggs from a guy at work and they range from an off white to green - I believe he has Bantams.

Still doesn't mean that Jesse's bird isn't one.

I have no idea what breed she is, but I want pics of her eggs!

Word to the wise, never teach a chicken to ring the doorbell for a treat!

omg..cute!! I swear if I ever live in the country I'm totally having a yard full of chickens.. they are so goofy in the cutest way.

Hey Jaks that a EE, I have Aracaunas, they have no tail and have ear tufts and look like little Emus. EE's are basicly mixed chickens that lay colored eggs, hatcherys often sell them as Aracaunas or Ameracaunas, which is a large tailed breed which lays blue or green eggs. EE's can lay pink, olive green, different shades of blue, green and brown, depending on what crosses they come from. They often come in the color that your little girl is, and yes there is a bantam size also.

Gloria is one Hot and Sexay chicken mama!

I hope you find her breed........ green eggs huh? Got any ham to go with 'em?

Wow I've gotten zero email notifications. And all of a sudden I have 11 replies.

Yeah my friend is a dog trainer and he said one of the assignmetns in his dog training books was that you have 2 weeks to teach a chicken 5 tricks. Erron got all excited I think he now wants to s tart training our chickens. Good thing we don't have a doorbell.

Yes they're a light shade of green, probably becaus she eats mostly hay seeds and bugs. In teh sumemr I don't put much food out for them and they eat mostly whatever comes theri way, like flowers and grasses and seeds and lots of grasshoppers. I'll take pics of the eggs sometime later. So much work to do today.

So Gloria is like a chicken mutt cross with a purpose? kind of like a spotted draft horse or an appendix?

Yes EE's are an on purpose mutt, for the colored eggs, her eggs actually are green, its not what she eats. True Aracaunas are pretty rare, and they carry a lethal gene problem, its linked to the ear tuft gene, so many don't make it. Americaunas are a standardized breed, that was created to to produce blue/green eggs and be showable in APA. EE's have just evolved from folks wanting colored eggs and just crossing whatever to get it. They can be any color, but your girl is one of the more common colors/patterns, and they always have a pea comb, as pea combs are linked to the blue egg gene. She looks bearded too, pretty little girl.
