To get rid of sinusitis??? :?

I's got it bad and I'm trying to get rid of it without antibiotics. I already spent 10 days on antibiotics, cortisone and a morphine-derived syrup called Dalmacol which was supposed to help my bronchitis by making me cough but it's done nothing. Lol.

Yes, I know, the best thing would be to see a doc, but the docs give me such strong meds that I would love love to have it taken care of without meds. Lol. My nose burns so much that it makes my eyes cry. Lol.

Funny you ask, I was watching Oprah not long ago, maybe around Thanksgiving when I had time off work. Caught this episode, great. I love this Dr who frequents the show, he's got to be thee best there is. Read this, try it if you dare, let us know how it goes, if it works. Hope you can find a bidet...:?.

So it is drainage or stuffiness? Do you have allergies? A cold? I have had allergies all of my life, should have bought stock in kleenex when I was a kid, I would be rich today haha. So anyway I use to get sinus infections all the time, they would go away for 2 or 3 weeks and then come back, basically it never went away.OVer and over again, I would have to go on antibiotics for a month at a time in order for it to be really gone. That is hard becausemost Dr.'sdon't want to give it to you for that long. I use to mess around taking this and that, trying everything over the counter but nothing worked. I would get scripts from the doc but nothing worked. I was a mess for years! Then I discovered Zyrtec, I have taken it every night for the past 5ish years and haven't had an infection since. I get sinus headaches, drainage etc. but I haven't had a real face aching, teeth hurting, head pounding sinus infection is years. I too have gotten so that I know the signs and can pick up on them early and if I start taking decongestants right away around the clock for a couple of days then I can kick it before it gets bad. Not the decongestants that they sell over the counter now, I have to get the little card off of the shelf and take it to the pharmacy, the stuff that they sell over the counter isn't the same anymore. The good stuff is behind the counter!

Not sure if this helps but I couldn't live without my zyrtec and Advil cold and sinus (walmart brand)

I want one! I saw that show, no place in my town sells them I have been going to order one from Amazon.com but I haven't gotten around to it. I have heard that it really works.....if you don't drown yourself!!!

Bah I didn't wanna gross anyone out but yeh...

The left side is the problem. Though I am starting on the right a bit. 2-3 weeks ago i was found to have bronchitis. A few days later, I felt I was starting a sinus infection ( I always get both at the same time) so I got the antibiotics.

I thought it passed but it was like coming and going. i started getting headaches but I thought it had to do with me dropping all my meds at once. And then yesterday, WHAM, I got hit by a train.

I had a pounding headache... Thought maybe I drank too much? But then I couldn't breathe from my left side. And then the sore throat and the coughing. And then the side of my face got swollen. And my eye was well yucky... My glands are awful swollen and painful.

So yeh... Took my temp. 35.1C. Go figure. I am always sicker when my temp drops like that. Took two Tylenol flu Nightime... Knocked me out til 2:20pm today. Still not better today. So much so that I actually had soup! LOL. And I couldn't eat more than a quarter of my plate (which is so not like me).

Anywho, I'm gonna check that doc. Funny thing is I was wondering what his name was cause I also love that guy! Thanks everyone :)

Oh ewwww no way!

I was prescribed a similar thing years ago. That and choking on water in a pool is the exact same feeling! LOL

Look for a nose nasal spray, empty bottle.

Mix baking soda and water, put in nose nasal spray and squart it up your nose.

It kills it all in a day, and you are well.

Also get vics vapor rub, rub it all over your feet before bed, put socks over it. Sleep it off, you will start to feel better too, it will get rid of the cold and all as well.

Awwwww the Vicks thing must be soooooo nice! I will soooo try that! Lol. Love the smell of Vicks.

I shall try that baking soda thing as well... Never heard of it before.

Oh and I must say,,, hurray for PUFFS Kleenex. The Vicks ones are great too. lol. I could not imagine having those store brands right now. My poor nose :p

Well, they picked a girl out of the audience that day and she went up and did it, no problem, might be worth a shot. I'm scared of that too, but at least YOU have the control of how fast the water goes in and such. I'd do it if I were miserable, I would at least try it. Especially if it works as good as he says it does.:)

I got a bad head cold this past weekend and thought it might turn into a sinus infection.

My best friends:

1. Vicks Vaporizer (12.00 at Walmart) with Vicks Vaposteam to put directly into the water. Close your bedroom door and leave it on while you sleep.

2. Over the counter nasal spray with Decongestant.

3. Some sort of over the counter Decongestant/Antihistamine

4. Any type of cough drop with Zinc. Works wonders on shortening a cold

Also, boiling water in your apartment helps add moisture to the air. I also like to boil water and then put a towel over my head and breathe in the steam.

Hope youre better soon!

Yeh I steam myself with the shower but it hasn't been doing anything. The Vicks thing... Would it be too strong for a bunny in the room? I can't move the bunnies right now :? I have a nasal spray actually. It's cortisone based but burns awful bad when it's a sinus infection and worsens the headaches plus it falls into my throat... Not a good thing right now. hihi. But if the vapour thing could work I'd like to try that...

Oh yeah its fine for bunnies. Actually the reason I bought it was because Max had bronchitis and my vet suggested that it might help him breathe. He and Basil loved it so much they would sit in front of it for hours breathing in the steam. I put an NIC gate in front of it though so they wouldnt hover too close and burn their little noses or something..

You can also use eucalyptus or many different vaporizers (usually sold in the same aisle) to put in the medicine cup. I like the Vapo Steam because you put it directly into the water and it smells so nice.

I've used it on my buns and kittens before and it's great. i just used eucalyptus oil so wasn't sure if Vicks was ok since i thought maybe there was something else in it. hihi. That's great then. I'll try and get one tomorrow.

Thanks everyone

I got mine from Walgreens. I can't remember how much it cost, but it was inexpensive. It's plastic, not clay. It takes a few times to really get the hang of how to use it. At least it took me a few tries...maybe I'm a slow learner :)

I have chronic sinus problems andthis can behelpful over time. Unfortunately I get lazy and only use it in streaks. I think if you use it on an on-going basis it can be preventative, but once you've got an infection I think only antibiotics will take the infection away. My doctor has started to "rotate" antibiotics so as not to become immune to a particular one which has been helpful.

This is such a timely topic for me! I called in sick to work today because of a bad sinus infection. This reminds me I should break out the neti pot again once its cleared up :)

Also, like someone else said above, I take a prescription allergy medication (Fexophredrine- generic Allegra) year round. This is helpful because sinus trouble gets more aggravated due to allergies. I also use a presciption nasal spray (Nasacort) in the Spring and Fall when I have seasonal allergies.

Ugh

I have Singulair and Nasonex. I've also been on Flonase and Nasocort. I have allergies but this is definitely an infection with the timing of the bronchitis. Seems I never get one without the other.

I've been rotating antibiotics but I have them 5-6 times a year and so I have become immune to many of them. Just sucks. I hate meds. :grumpy:
