HELP!! Oh! MY! I need youall! I experienced the WORST animal neglectyesterday. How can I go about reporting that? Iwent to a feed store last night and wondered over to (just) look at therabbits, and those poor dears!! There were 13 rabbits in thedirtiest cages I have EVER seen! Looked as if they had weeksand weeks of urine and droppings in the bottom. FliesEVERYWHERE!! Rancid water in their dishes. A fewcages had NO food. (No hay, just pellets...if they werelucky.) They are in cages outside here in Tucson, Arizona -temperatures here reach 115 and those poor sweeties are going to beMISERABLE when it gets that hot. The cages were barely in theshade. They had rigged some sort of tarp to shade them, butthe tarp was so old and tattered I don't think it helped themmuch. (I keep my buns outside, but they are completely shadedand they have big ice-water bottles). Next to the rabbits wasa pen of ducks. Babies. They had been pooping intheir food and the tub of 'water' for them was DISGUSTING!!Full of urine and waste. I feel so bad for thosecreatures. I wanted to buy them all and just let themgo. I seriously think they would have a better chance tosurvive if they were in the wild. There was also a horse thatjust seemed miserable! The smell of dirty animals and wastewas too much to bear. I haven't been able to stop thinkingabout it!!

Anyone know what I need to do? What would YOU do?Do I call the store? Humane Soicety? Am I crazy orare filthy (and obviously) cramped animals unhappy andmiserable? Please help!

Hugs!

Kricket

P.S. Forgot to add that there was a cat with her kittens in a woodencrate RIGHT next to the horse's corral right next to a TON of horsewaste. My sister ALMOST kitty-napped all the kittens...pooranimals! I just want to cry. I can't concentrate(I'm at work). It is too early, Humane Society opens at8am....

If you in usa you can report it to the enligsh equivilant of the rscpa.

The sooner it can be reported, the sooner those poor buns, can be taken out of those bad conditions.

There should be a few people here that should be able to give you more details of which direction you have to go.

Good work Kricket !!!!!

First of all callthe Police then theHumane Society , Callthe HRS also andmaybe the mayor of your townthen call the HQ of the store ,call everyone and anyone thatcomes to mind even friends andrelatives Get your voice outthere let everyone know whats happening

damn I wish i wascloser all hell would be aboutto come crashing downon these people.

Call the ASPCA immediately. The HumaneSociety as well. If at possible take pictures, of the aniamls theircagegs food water everything. With that type of neglect photodocumentaion can prove invaluable in prosecuting them in court.

You poor dear, I am so sorry. I want to commend you for taking action. Hugs for you.

I'm with the others. I'd report them. Tina's advice to take pictures is a great idea.

Poor babies! :(

The police? OK. I'm not trying to be a "namedropper" but I am DJ at a large-scale radio station and, trust me, Ihave considered talking about it on the air!! What is the HQof the store? I didn't even think of calling themayor. Good call, Gypsy! Thanks y'all! Ilove you!!

Like everyone else said, report them! Also, the picture taking is a good idea, as that will provide evidence you may need.

Keep us up to date with this. I'd be as sick at heart as you are. Heck, I am and I haven't even seen it!

P.S. I'd love to do rescues too!

Just called Pima County AnimalControl. They say someone will be out to investigate within24 hours. I am on hold now with the Tucson PoliceDepartment. Then I am off to call the Mayor's office (for anaddress to write to). The Humane Society doesn't open foranother 30 minutes.

Should I call the store owner/manager too?

Hugs!

No Don't Call the store owner. There isno telling what they will do. I wouldn't want to risk them dumping theanimals or worse trying to avoid a problem. Let the officers and Humanesociety people be a complete surprise. That way they see it for exactlywhat it is.

I'm keeping you andthese poor animals in my prayers. I'm amazed they've lasted this long.

Thank you so much for taking action. I know it has touched medeeply and the animals are going to be eternally grateful.

What did the police say??

The police told me they cannot respond unless it is something like ananimal in a hot car. Or, say, a dog hanging out the back of atruck being dragged down the road. In other words, they don'trespond to "simple" neglect (as the officer put it that I talkedto). :(

That's ok for right now. Sad and makesme mad as all get out but we can deal with that. Once the SPCA and orHumane Society gets involved so will the cops.

I think you are AWESOME.
