My boy Ambrose is getting neutered tomorrow so wish him luck! I've explained to him whats happening but i dont think he understands:D I hope he wont hate me tooo much but he really needs a girl bunny friend and i cant get him one of those til he's done so hopefully he will understand now the question is more just double checking. I cant get him a cage mate til hes done correct? I'd hate to put him through this if its not needed. thanks in advance!

Good Luck Ambrose! Hope you found a rabbit savvy vet too.:D

Well, if you got a spayed female you could, but better off just getting him done, he could still mark territory un neutered-spray:disgust-yuck. Plus, he'll be happier in the long run.

Hey ambrose!

Good luck with your buns neuter!

It's better not to get your bun a cage mate until he has been neutered. You can put two male and two female rabbits together without being neutered (and yes, some males do bond), but it usually goes so much more smoothly when they're both neutered/spayed.

After your bun gets neutered, it's best to wait a month or two before introducing a female, as he can still breed for a little while after the operation. Are you planning on getting his companion neutered/spayed as well? It would be a good idea, for a few reasons, but mainly because it usually goes so much smoother when they're both neutered/spayed. Also, females can develop uterine cancer if they're not spayed.

Also, have you read up on bonding rabbits? You can't just put the new bun in his cage straight away, they must be bonded before they will tolerate each other. They may fight if they do not bond. Keep in mind that if the new bun does not bond with Ambrose, you will need to get a different cage for her, and make sure she gets her own run time, etc.Make sure you learn more about it before bringing the new bun home.

thank for the replies! I plan on adopting a girl from a shelter and they spay them before they send the mout and its only $50 for the adoption! It costs $154 to spay a female rabbit where i live so thats quite a bargain:shock: I plan on getting her in about a month so it will fit in quite well with Ambrose and have read up lots on bonding them, i have a temp house for the girl to stay in while they get friendly and am prepared to offer her a permanent home even if they dont bond. I'm looking forward to this but am a ware it may take a month or more to get them to hutch sharing status if at all! Unfortuanatley my closest shelter is 2 hours away so i carnt really take am brose with me to see if they hate each other at first sight so heres hoping!I'll keep you all filled in:)

:pray:for you and Ambrose! When Whiskers, our boy bun, was neutered, he was uncomfortable for a day or two, but then back to his old self....and he didn't seem to be angry with us, either. Take care, and let us know how he's doing.

bought him home this afternoon and he seems to be doing fine. He sa little quiet but otherwise ok. He has had a little nibble of his tea which is good. The vet siad he did really well, alll went smooth and he woke up without a prob!

That's fantastic!

Lots of healing vibes for Ambrose

Glad to hear your boy is doing well! Boys tend to recover fairly quick in my experience. Just be sure he's eating and pooping normally for now.

Its great you will be getting him a friend. Keep us posted!
