So yesterday i discovered one of my bunnies is albino as it opened its eyes for the first time and they were ruby red and it is an all-white bunny, i want to know is there any precautions i need to do so it can live the fulliest of life with impaired vision if it helps the breed is Mini-rex and it is 11 days old thank you for your time.

They should not have any impaired vision. They can live happy normal lives. I have an albino mini rex and she can see perfectly. Just treat it like any other bunny.

As the baby grows up, if you see it doing a scanning motion, that is common with REW rabbits due to their vision limitations. How the limited vision would affect your bun just depends on what your rabbits personality is like. Some rabbits are completely unfazed by the limited vision, and other rabbits it can make them more nervous or cautious, especially in new areas or situations. So just something to be aware of as your rabbit grows up.

The first link gives a detailed description of rabbits vision and also explains albino rabbits vision.

And this link may help if you find as your bun grows up, that it does have problems navigating and being startled due to limited vision.

Thank you for the links! i have already done small research the moment me and my Mom found out it is an albino and have set boundaries for it such as keeping it away from edges, no shining lights at it and basic things like that. I have seen it do the scanning motion alot so i assume that it is already limited on vision though this may also be it just starting to see.

There is a mini Rex variety for the REW (ruby eyed white). That doesn’t mean the kit is blind. You won’t know until it’s older,. I wouldn’t assume it’s going to be blind just yet.

I have looked up signs a bunny is albino and it checks every box, it has been scanning and usually when it is by a bright light it keeps its eyes closed.

and albinos are not blind they are partially blind. They still have some sort of vision it just is hard to pick up certain things.

Albinism is safe in rabbits, unlike some other animals. They live full, normal lives just like other rabbits. No special needs.

I’m just saying that just because the rabbit is white doesn’t mean it will be vision impaired. We had this variety in our Polish and saw no signs of vision impairment in the REWs. If yours has a vision problem there may be an underlying condition causing it.
