I just got my rabbit spayed last tuesday. And i notice something that no one mentioned on this site about spaying. I found this spot on my rabbit where the fur is kinda shaved and white things are stuck to it. It's kinda gross and it feels bad picking up my rabbit. The spot is near the bottom of the back, i guess it;s like the butt maybe....

I never saw that spot before the spay, is it normal?

If it's dry skin, then a little bit of that is normal.

Wildfire had some pretty dry/flaky skin after her spay. I think the clipper or razor just irritates the skin.

I'm not sure if moisturizer is safe, but maybe something like bag balm?

Hmm... Well if it's not where she was shaved, then it may be mites.

You can get a skin scraping tested at the vets. Then if it is mites, you'll have to give her medicine to get rid of them.

I don't have experience with mites, so hopefully someone else will step in.

Ive dealt with mites before..all I can say is Yuck! ;)

I would get her back into the vet just to be sure though. Especially since she was just spayed and everything. Your vet can take a skin scraping to look at it under the microscope.

Is she itching or losing hair in any other area? If its mites, your vet will prescribe something to take care of it, or you can use an over the counter medication. Make sure you ask about treating the environment as well, these things can linger in the carpet if it is mites.

I did some research on mites, and i think my rabbit has it. EWWW What do i do?? I kinda don't want to take my rabbit to the vet, becuz when my mom finds out again she won't be too happy. She might make me give the rabbit away or so something to it. My mother is not happy with the fact that i have a rabbit.

I think i'm positive that my rabbit has mites. I'm going to petco tomorrow to get the 8 in 1 pro ultra care. description (Spray-on formula controls fleas and ticks on hamsters, gerbils, rabbits, guinea pigs, and mice.)Is it alright?

And how do I use it? And i still want a reply on if the mites will effect me or not.
And is there anything else i need to do? My mom got me a new rug and i guess i'll use that after i get rid of the mites. Do i need to feed it less hay becuz i read that the reasons might be from hay or somthing like that...

I'm very scared now and grossed out. Please help.
Thanks.

no, the mites shouldnt affect you.

You can try the over the counter spray if youre really against a vet visit, but be careful. Make sure you really keep an eye on your bunny because they can have an adverse reaction (even if its safe for bunnies). I used that 8 in 1 stuff when Basil and Max had mites and it worked fine.

Its best if you have help. Have someone hold your bunny against their chest (a towel helps so they dont get it on them) and you can cover their eyes and nose/mouth a bit. You just spray it all over and work it in with your hands. For areas near the face, I sprayed my hands and then worked it through (bc you really dont want to get it in their eyes!).

I did this 2x a day for about 2 weeks. Good luck!

Also, just wash your bedding/rugs and you should be fine. If youre really worried, you can buy a powder for the carpet that you put down and then vacuum up. Just make sure the bunnies arent in the room when you do this, the fumes are too strong.

Dont worry about the hay. I suspect if this started right after the spay she may have picked them up at the vets.

I still think you should have it checked by the vet though. Im worried it might be some kind of reaction or something..

what if i don't wash the bedding? my mom will be curious and she can not know anything is wrong. Thx for the advice, do mites only live on skin? And if you don't mind can you explain why my rabbit will be effected my mites and not me? we both got skin...

Id have to research, but I think they can actually get on you, but they dont want to stay there. They dont like the taste or something? Ick!

oh lord......

ewwwwwwww i don't like bugs, especially harmful ones.

Oh yea, the dandruffs aren't really stuck to the skin, its stuck to the fur, but the fur is really really short. So is it still the same situation?

And do mites reproduce?

I think they are attracted to the fur, they can burrow in it and then get deeper down. I know it's gross as heck, but it's just fact. Kinda like Lice or Scabies for humans-Eeeeewwwww. Just needs to be treated.

Kawaii, can you wash your bedding and just tell your mom that it's time it was washed, or just tell her your rabbit peed on your bed by accident, say she was started? What is your rabbit's name? You haven't mentioned that, I'm curious! :D

I never really named my rabbit, i always called it rabbit and it seem to reply to that a lot. but since i recently went to the vet and they asked for her name i just made something up right away. It's name is polly but i still call it rabbit.Ever sinceI was little,I don't name my pets becuz I only get one of them so i just call them by their breed. To me name is something that my pets should reply to when i say it, and since my rabbit replies to "rabbit", there isn't much point of giving it an actual name.

Okay... I did more research. OMG what if the fleas keep reproducing and now my whole room have fleas jumping all over? I'm very very very scare now. And i read that it's hard to get rid of them completely. Aww I might have to move. =( :bigtears::bigtears::bigtears:I like my home... =(

Aww, that is kinda sad. Who taught or told you that you should do this? I don't mean to condone you, so don't think that. I just think that's really sad. How old is she? If she is young, you can get her to learn a name. Start saying different names to her, and when she responds to one more than twice, I think you might have something. Just a thought. Again, I am not judging you at all. :D

Seriously, dont worry too much. I think youre overreacting.

Just go tomorrow and get some of that spray. Give it a try and see what happens. If you havent noticed her itching, though, it might not even be that. It honestly could just be dry skin. It cant hurt to give it a try and see.

But if you see her get worse or if its not getting better, I would get her to a vet. You could always tell your mom you'd like the vet to check her stitches from surgery or something and then when youre in there ask about the rash..

Dont worry though, Im obsessive about cleanliness and I made it through okay :)
