At what age do you retire a doe?

You might consider trying again when the weather cools off a bit. I have a few does that refuse to breed when it's too warm. They may think it's just too hot to raise a litter. We have had brutally warm temps in the Northeast, she may just be more willing if it cools off a little. I'd give...

What percent protein do you feed?

Most of my Flemish do fine on a diet with 16% protein and 20+% fiber. We always encourage hay (timothy mix) and only suppliment if there is an obvious problem. AS TinysMom said, we free feed pellets to our Flemish until they are 14-18 months of age, then re-evaluate their growth, condition, etc...

    Bunny Bureacracy

As mentioned, the Evans Software works real well for tracking rabbits, pedigree's, breedings and litters, chores and genetics on your computer. (There are other pedigree tracking programs! Everyone has their own preferences.) And a "hard-copy" print out of all the pedigrees is totally necessary...

Would a mother rabbit attack a baby that wasn't hers?

I just lost a Mini Rex Doe that was on a 3 week old litter of6 babies. Those6 babies got fostered off onto 2 Silver Fox Does and2 Mini Rex Does that had litters the same age. I haven't seen any issues or problems. (Had to spread them out! Everyone has such big litters right now!) The only doe...

    ARBA Leg?

As long as the Youth show wasn't part of either of the Open Shows. And regarding the BOS, as long as you BEAT4 other rabbits owned by 2 other exhibitors. If you take Best Opposite Sex, there has to be at least 5 entered by 3 exhibitors in THAT SEX.

    ARBA Leg?

You can only earn one leg per show. But if there was 2 shows, yes, you can get 2 legs. (provided there were the 3 different exhibitors and 5rabbits in each show.)

How much weight will a pregnant flemish put on?

Yeah, it depends on the doe, the number of Kits, her age, and how many littersshe has had. A lot of times, on a first litter (or even the second litter if the first one was small), you'll hardly notice any physical differences. Weight gain is minimal. You may notnotice a Flemish that gains a...

    ARBA Leg?

If it was an ARBA show, no matter what, you should get a "Show Report" from the show Secretary. It will show your entry and placings, and if you earned a leg, it will be attached. The Show Secretary has 30 days, after the show, to get the show reports mailed out. Sometimes if there is going...

Who is going to May shows - post them here...

I'm only going to one show in May: May 23, Spencer, Massachusetts - Open Show and Flemish Giant Specialty And yes! Everyone is welcome at a Rabbit Show. Lots to see, all kinds of rabbits! Respect the Judges (don't go behind the Judging tables) and make sure kids don't put their fingers...

Sounds like a great Day! You just have to follow your heart!

    biting question

First off, make sure it's a buck... double check. I do have a 3X strike out rule. But they have to be totally unprovoked, no known reason for the attack and they have to be serious bites. I do forgive hormonal does and bucks, moms on litters or any rabbit while I'm breeding (in and out of...

    Considering starting my own Rabbitry

What a GREAT day! Good for you to find someone knowledgable, patient and willing to share his experience. Best of luck with your new babies! :bunnydance::bunnydance: (Of course, it would be lovely if we can see photo's of your "foundation" stock! )

If your Juniors are not at minimum weight and your young seniors don't make weight yet, stay home. Lots of young SeniorFlemish don't make weight until they are 14+ months old. (Are you putting your young Juniors on the table just to get opionions? They are so young, they won't be competitive...

    baby bunny help

The mothers milk has very high colostrum, as well as necessary antibodiesthat the baby really, really needs this. Hand feeding is difficult, and there is nothing wrong with supplimenting, but you really need to let the baby nurse of the mother, preferably twice a day. If necessary, hold the...

    Blue Eyed - Blue Flemish!

Now I'm wondering if she carries a chin gene, as she matures ifshe will have excessive stray white hairs? (Blue Steel?) Pam, looking at the Dam's pedigree, I can only trace her back 7 generations... and the breeders on the pedigree that far back may have used Blacks out of Light grays...

    Blue Eyed - Blue Flemish!

ARGHhhhh! All that work, 12+ years of breeding and many, manygenerationsand I'm still dealing with a recessive chin gene? LOL! Honestly, this is the first I've seenof it in a Blue... so it can't be too prevalent... I've never seen it in any of that bucks offspring... and he's bred 14 different...

    Blue Eyed - Blue Flemish!

Thanks Pam! You are welcome to use the photo's. Looking at the pedigrees, I can't find a Light Gray in anyones background for between 7 and 11 generations. How long can something like that be carried? A lot of Black Flemish used to come from Light Grays and Steel Grays. But a few of us have...
