I was going to go to the show in Seguin this coming Saturday - it is a double shoe and Cindy's breeder will be there.

But honestly - I'm nowhere near being ready. We still have ears to tattoo and I need to figure out carrier space....and the part that is discouraging is knowing that four out of my five flemish I'd like to show (as seniors) don't make weight yet. In addition - of my four juniors I like - only one makes weight.

I could still go and show the hollands...

I don't know - have you ever felt this way about a show?

I guess part of my feelings are due to the fact we really REALLY need two new tires very badly and we can't afford those until the following week. By the time I pay the gas for the show and the entry fees - I'm looking at about $100 or more - probably more.

The next rabbit show I'd be going to is May 1st - which is Austin. By then we'll have new tires.

One of the reasons I wanted to go to this show - selling off my juniors that are pets. It would be nice to free up cage space.

But I hate to go when I know several will be dq'd for weight (under by 8 ounces or so).

Input please?

I'd like to go to see the people - but in my heart of hearts - whenever I think about it I get stressed just from all the preparations and knowing how bad our tires are...

If it was me I would go just to go. Even if you only had one rabbit to show it would be fun. But this is coming from someone who never gets to go to shows. Someone who has been trying for a year to get to a show with no luck. Yeah, I am just mad I can not get to any show. *breathes fire*

You could always enter the Hollands and the one Flemmie that does make weight. ;)

And you could bring the ones for sale too. :)

Or, you could advertise locally (like if you have a Yahoo group for your area?) and let people know that you have some rabbits for sale and could transport them to the show.

I think the juniors are probably under the age that she wishes to sell at. But I agree, take the hollands and flemish and have fun. But if the money really is a worry forget it and spend it on what you need!

If your Juniors are not at minimum weight and your young seniors don't make weight yet, stay home. Lots of young SeniorFlemish don't make weight until they are 14+ months old. (Are you putting your young Juniors on the table just to get opionions? They are so young, they won't be competitive... and why expose them to "whatever" may be at the show? Not just stress, but bacteria, viruses, etc.). You already know which ones are the top picks. Start selling off the others, hold onto your picks and give them time to mature. A few weeks to a month can make a huge difference.

I'd give yourself til May to get things together. You NEED the tires... (How safe is it to drive that far to a show on bad tires?) It's not fun to stress yourself out over going to a show.

My personal opinion, I don't take any Flemish Junior to a show until it's over 4 months oldand9 lbs. I just think it's safer for my rabbits. JMVHO...

Thanks Cathy. As I was thinking about it this morning - I wound up deciding to not go - and then opened up this thread to see your comments.

Truth be told - the tires do worry me a bit. Right now we don't have a spare because it won't hold air (need new one) - and I hate traveling that far on our tires. I would love to go and see the Holland breeders I saw in Belton - but they are more likely to be at the Austin show than this one.

Part of me is so sad - I love going to the shows.

But I really need to put our safety first and the rabbits' safety next. To be honest - I'm almost toying with just waiting until fall to go to shows since I want to breed the flemish girls soon.

Anyway - thanks for everyone's input. I'm really sad at my decision - but the upside is - I have two inquiries now on my rabbit I'm letting go. They're old enough to go - which was why I would have taken them to the show...but if I can rehome two - that is a great start and it will open up a big cage for my buck that is a keeper of the litter (he's over 7 pounds already).

Just a short update..

At 3:30 am I wound up deciding to go to the show. We packed up the Hollands and the flemmies I wanted to sell and off we went.

Cindy took BOB in both shows - I was in shock. She beat out her daddy and her sister.

I found out my buck really isn't that good (and I'll share reasons why later - after I get up).

I had a blast - I got to see broken flemish (that is a story in itself - I did take a few pictures) - and I came home with more rabbits.

However - I sold two flemish juniors as pets plus the one I wound up delivering on the way home....and I have someone coming tomorrow to pick up a flemish junior.

I came home with two more holland lops for my herd - what I think is a nicer buck and another broken tort doe that is a proven mom....something that I wanted as a backup even if she was just a brood doe.

I also won in the raffle a broken black polish doe. She's five years old and they just wanted to give her away - so she wound up being donated for the raffle table. I took one look at her face and knew I had to have her.

She is going to live out her retirement here with us.

More later - including pictures.

But the neat thing is - Cindy now has three legs and she isn't even a senior yet. The two judges today loved her- AND they really liked Sher too - but they couldn't get over Cindy's crown and how nice her crown and her ears are.

And now...to crash....

Sounds like a great Day! You just have to follow your heart!
