    Question About Sunlight/Vitamin D

I don't know about biological needs (though it's probably addressed in some rabbit vet texts I don't have with me right now), but I have noticed my doe loves to lay in or near the sun coming from my slider door all day every day... to the point where she thumps at me if I try to get her to go...

My bunny keeps scratching my door when I’m inside my room.

Ohhh, I've seen this. Only it was my buck chewing up the carpet outside my door. In my specific case, my buck thought my room was *his* room. And underneath my bed was totally *his* territory. He did not tolerate that door being closed no matter what. It had nothing to do with me, or food, or...

    Free Roam/ stairs?

I'd recommend gating off the stairs if they're all finished wood. Rabbits have fur on the bottom of their paws, not pads like dogs or cats, which makes such surfaces more dangerous for them.

    Free Roam/ stairs?

My rabbits love the stairs. My doe took to them immediately, but my smaller buck took almost a year before he braved them. I now leave them free roam 24/7, whether anyone's home or not. My stairs are carpeted. If they weren't, I doubt my rabbits would use them (or could do so safely). My house...

    Rabbit Enrichment

I bought some long planter boxes and planted grass, cilantro, parsley, & dandelion in them. I leave them on the floor next to a window or slider for munching. (Don't put them outside for sun -- bugs get in them.) Ikea Hols are popular in Europe for rabbits, so I imported a couple of those to...

    Picky Doe's Hay Discontinued!

My doe *only* eats Small Pet Select's orchard medley hay, which I just found out is discontinued :( (The farmer they got this from retired, so it's not SPS's fault. They're hoping they can find a new supplier...) Does anyone lace in alfalfa to their grown rabbits' regular hay to keep them...

Help - Bunny Tearing Up Carpet

I block off my couches with NIC grids so they don't get under them and tear up carpet. I also use small pieces of ceramic tiling in corners where they like to dig. You can usually get ceramic tiles to match your carpet somewhat.

    Vet

Annual checkups with a rabbit-savvy vet, yes. The vet will look at stuff you can't see yourself (incisors, molars, inside their ears), and do stuff like palpate for growths/tumors, listen to digestive sounds, and check the rear end. I don't think there are any rabbit vaccines in the US., though.

Rabbit color questions. Lots of pictures....

Rabbit colors were really confusing for me. I picked up a neat book called "ABC About Bunny Colors" that went into some simple genetic and color stuff. I really liked the book and recommend it for anyone curious about this kind of stuff...

    Quiet and active times.

My rabbits took to my schedule pretty quickly. They head to their respective sleeping places when I turn out the lights and head for bed around 11:00pm and I don't hear anything from them all night. They're awake and up before I get up around 6am, but not super active before then -- more kind...

    Humping during bonding

I can't comment on the bonding part (mine were kind of pre-bonded), but my buck grunts all the time. It's kind of like a gutteral "grrrrrrr" sound. He does it when he gets annoyed, but he also does it when I have treats or bring dinner... it's become a catch-all communicatory utterance for him...

Anybody’s bun sleep in their bed?

I've invited my buck up to my bed, but he doesn't like it; I'm not sure why. He spends half his day under the bed, though, so I think he's demarcated our respective territories. My doe refuses to enter my bedroom, so I don't know if she'd like it on top of the bed. I think it's a territorial...

Do you have a favorite among your buns?

My doe is much more outgoing & people-friendly than my stoic & reclusive buck. Because of her personality, I tend to spend more time with her: petting her, talking to her, and just hanging out with her (she's usually downstairs in the dining room area, whereas my buck prefers lounging underneath...

    Making Bunny Playpen

Here's what my first rabbit's setup looked like when I brought him home: Rug on top of carpet with xpen on top of rug.

    Making Bunny Playpen

I used 32" xpens (made for small dogs) when I first got my rabbits. Ha, I have the same issue. I buy rugs from the local store when they go on sale. The ones with rubber backings are best for keeping urine from soaking through onto your carpet. Make sure the fabric isn't made with loops --...

    Baby rabbit help

Is there a grassy area around your apartment in which you can bury them? What about a nearby park?

A bad vet experience left my bun & girl concerned. . .

I agree with everything JBun said. Her link is to the House Rabbit Society page of rabbit vets -- that's what I used to find my vet when I first got rabbits. A rabbit-savvy vet should be very experienced in reading & handling rabbits of all temperaments that come into their clinic. I never...

    how to clip?

If you find a way that works for you, please post it here! I had so much trouble trimming my rabbits' nails that I just gave up and started making quarterly appointments at the vet to have them trimmed. :(

    cord protectors

You have Home Depot, right? I bought something called "flex tubing" from them here in a US store and it works well for hanging cords (like from a lamp). Raceways would probably be better for longer distances. (They have weird names for something that should be called "cord protectors" for some...

Training / Stopping a Behavior Question

I've found that changing or adapting the situation/environment is usually easier than stopping unwanted behavior in rabbits, especially if the unwanted behavior is something natural to them.
