About 2 months ago I was on my way to work when I saw a sick looking rabbit on the side of my street...When I got home from work he was on the other side of the street..He seemed to be in pretty bad shape but still responsive..His injuries included scratches over his eyes, talon scratches on his rear, and he was very skinny. We took him and began to feed, and care for him. He has been very mild mannered and has made almost a full recovery. Now I wonder if it would be safe to release him back to the wild. The only concern is that his eyes seem iffy..He could be blind, and I feel it would be a disadvantage to him in the wild. I would love to hear some feedback.. Thanks

[align=center]To me, it sounds like his eyes are permanently damaged, which could cost him his life in the wild. I would probably keep him if I were in your position. But I'm not sure if that's even legal in your state (or mine)?

I think that in every state you need a special license to be able to keep wildlife. I don't think it's that hard to get, but it might be worth calling around or doing some research online to see what you can find out about it.

Any wildlife rehab centers or sanctuaries are likely to know how to best go about your situation to either make it so you can keep the rabbit or where to take it so it can be cared for throughout its life.

Good luck!

A vet check could let you know if there are problems.

They would have to really look around for a vet, though, which could be a problem. Regular vets aren't allowed to look at wildlife.

I would say see what it takes to get a liscence or if you don't want to keep it, find a wildlife sanctuary or something.

I don't think it's a good idea to release him back, but definatly try to see if it's legal for you to keep him or at least see if there's a place that will take in injured wild animals :)
