Hi all,

My 6 months old rabbit has these white formations / patches on his feet and is constantly itching or nibbling at ... Particularly the left fore limb ... I have attached photos of the feet

Looks like he is also having difficulty putting the left fore limb down on ground when he s sitting at one place ... he constantly raises the left fore limb and only uses it when he is moving around .. Have been observing all this from the past one week ...

Could someone let me know what is this condition all about and what needs to be done ??

FYI, I have no past experiences in rabbit keeping ... just a beginner !

Mites!! Get to a vet and they can sort out some treatment for you (and confirm diagnosis)
Also be aware that mange mites can transmit to humans and to other animals, so best to fix this sooner rather than later if that’s what it is!

Seeing a vet that has experience with rabbits would be the best thing, but being that you are in India, if you don't have access to a vet that knows how to correctly treat a rabbit with this sort of problem, the medication used to treat sarcoptes mange mites is ivermectin(dosage 0.4mg/kg, 3 treatments 10-14 days apart), dosage needs to be very carefully calculated as an overdose can be fatal. Or a topical treatment called Revolution/Stronghold which has the active ingredient selamectin(dosage 18mg/kg, usually only needs to be applied once), is also an effective medication used for mites. Also note that some rabbits can have a very negative reaction to some medications, especially the ivermectin with rabbits that are white with blue eyes, vienna marked rabbits, and dutch rabbits. Revolution/Stronghold(selamectin) may be the safer and easier medication to use if you have it available to you.

Thanks for your reply ... Yes, visited the vet last night and got a prescription from him ... It was confirmed mites !
He had prescribed ivermectin oral syrup 1ml in the morning and 1ml at night ... Also amitraz IP for surface application on affected areas (diluted in water) four to five times a day ...

Thanks for your concern, appreciate that !
Well there are quite a lot of vets around my place, but only thing as you correctly mentioned is about their rabbit expertise ... I did visit a vet last night on this issue, he had prescribed ivermectin oral syrup 1ml in the morning and 1ml at night ... And amitraz IP for surface application on affected areas (5ml diluted in 1l water) four to five times a day ...
Hope that should work fine ... let me know your thoughts and suggestions ... Thanks again !
