I'd like to buy calendula cream to try on my Mini Rex girl's sore hocks. Can anyone recommend a store where I could find it? (I'd prefer to buy it in person, rather than online.)

Thank you,

Jenk

If you can't find it, it is very easy to make! Most health food store will have the petals in bulk. Put in a saucepan or crockpot add enough olive oil to cover and let steep on low heat for several hours. If using crockpot, I put on low for 24 hours. Strain thru cheesecloth. Either use as is for an oil, or add melted beeswax to thicken it into a salve. Pour into clean dry container. You can also add some Vit E, acts as a natural preservative.

I don't trust myself to make a good, useable version of it; that option is out. :p

I live near Jewel-Osco, Meijer, Dominick's, Target, Wal-Mart, and Babies-R-Us. Has anyone had any luck finding it at one of these stores? (I wouldn't think that it can only be purchased online.)

I'd try to find a health food store. Some of of the big chain stores may have it, but it will probably have alot of junk in it also. Stuff you probably don't want bunny ingesting.

I know this is an old post, but if you haven't found an easy place to get calendula cream, heres an option. Go to target, baby isle, look for California Baby Calendula Cream, it's in a yellow small jar. It's pretty expensive, but very very nice and all natural.

Is is anymore costly than HealX Soother Plus (HealX Soother Plus)? I pay $18 for a 1-oz. tube of it at my vet's office, which is quite high, IMO.

It's $12-13 for a 2 oz jar and ~$20 for a 4 oz jar, so definitely less costly then what you're currently paying. Never used it on a rabbit, but it's made with all natural food grade products, so no issue if they licked at it. Works great on people.

Wow... It's much less expensive than HealX Soother Plus.

I actually need to run to Target tonight--to buy a gift for a very young child, no less--so I'll definitely check out the baby-care aisle for California Baby Calendula Cream.

Thank you,

Just to clarify, calendula crea works well for bunny sore hocks, right? My Mini Rex needs near-daily treatment to keep her sore hocks manageable; so I need something that works well. (HealX Soother Plus is a good product, but I'd gladly go for something less pricey if it, too, works well.)

I work at an alternative grocery and health shop. We sell Calendula cream by Boiro for about $7. It's a 4oz tube.

I am not sure it's safe for bunnies to be honest though.

But check your local health food shop!

Maybe someone else knows better than me because I've only had one bunny and haven't had to deal with sore hocks. My experience with calendula cream has been on people. Works extremely well for dry, cracked skin especially due to eczema, also clears up all sorts of rashes. Sorry don't know more about bunnies.

Burt's Bees?
I wouldn't trust these products with Emma, who always licks off some of whatever I put on her hocks. (That's the main reason I've continued using HealX Soother Plus all this time: it's safe if ingested.)
