And these people are in 4-H? Obviously that hasn't worked for them! 4-H teaches you about animal responsibitly, welfare, health, etc. Even if they don't show the goat in 4-H, he's still a part of their committment! When they took the animals into their care, they should realize that they are responsible for EVERYTHING that happens to them, and they need to take them to the doctor's to get well and not just let them suffer. I would of gone balistic if I were you Zin, but I would of still helped out.

Surely, you are going to have them cover the costs, right? Anyway, kudos to you Zin, you are such a good person to help in the time of need.

Karma will most likely fall upon those "farmers".

Hey Leaf, about the turkey-do you know it's breed/age/sex? Those will all be big factors in whether or not it can be treated succesfully. I used to raise turkeys, and I had a couple of the heavy meat breeds as pets. If you like, pm me with more details, mabye I can help in some way.

Unfortunatly, you can only teach people who are willing (and care enough) to learn. WhatI really love is the fact that this is the lesson these kids are learning from their parents, and most likely they will perpetuate the cycle.

Actually, his name is Davy Jones..lol

He has been to the vet..he has a hairline fracture and he is dehydrated and malnourished.

He is no longer in my possession. The vet I had to take him to because mine was out, his wife fell in love with him, and since I know nothing about goats care.. and I don't want a goat on top of my Daytona.. he now lives at Doc Fosters..

I think the thing is, if you keep pets for livestock purposes, you need to make a balance. I understand its sometimes difficult if you do have an animal that isn't a pet but still needs care. I remember once when my Nans sheep got attacked by a dog. It tore the poor sheep's throat so bad. The thing is, it was Christmas Day, pretty much the only day when vets are indefinatley not open. In the end my Grandad had to shoot it. There may have been a very slim chance it could have survived. But there was nothing we could do to keep it alive and in no pain. So it was the best thing to do.

I also think that sometimes if an animal is livestock that develops a long problem it can be difficult to keep up with the costs. Personally i think pets should be helped in any possible situation, but with 'livestock' animals you may not go to the ends of the earth. However, you should still try...
