What to do...what to do?

Well - two bits of bad news.

First- there are at least 15 applicants -one of which has 10 years experience in logistics....which is a LARGE part of the job.

Then...Art told me this afternoon that per company headquarters...because much of this job WILL involve overseeing HR files (even though the other gal didn't do them) - I am not eligible for the job.

Now I find myself wondering - do I want to look for an office job w/ the state, Federal government (or military/military contractor) - or stick with merchandising....?

I'm trying to figure out why I wanted this job so much - I think part of it was I'd be working where Art works...so another office job wouldn't necessarily meet that desire..

ARG.

I'm going to go cry soon....I've been holding the tears back all day.

Oh I'm so sorry Peg! I was rooting for you too!

I've worked in merchandising and office jobs and personally I prefer the office environment even though, like you, they often bore the heck out of me after a while. And the reason is because office jobs tend to have more mobility with raises and moving up or branching out into another job title, and they also have much better benefits usually.

For me, I don't want to work solely for money either, but at the same time I want a good paying job. Enough money is a really great stress reliever to enable enjoying more things instead of always worrying about pinching pennies or paying off debt.. to me that's really important.

If the office job is really awful, you can always quit later on ;).

Maybe there's another opening at the company soon?
At least you now know that you would be interested and willing to accept a job offer of this kind.
And, you networked with people in the office :)
They will remember you, Peg.
Maybe check the paper for a comparable position, if you would like to practice your interview skills some more. I think it sounds like you are on a roll right now, despite some things not falling exactly into place :)
 You're doing great, keep it up .

When I got done posting - I spent some time researching jobs and then took a short nap.

I'm sorta confused on what to do. Honestly - the majority of office jobs around here - unless you work for the city or state - are around $8 - $9 per hour. The ones you can get working for the military or the local government around maybe $11 - $12 per hour.

None of them sounded interesting at all. None. Honest. I don't want to go back into an office - just to work in an office.

Right now with my merchandising I make between $8 and $10.75 per hour - depending upon which company I'm working with. The nice thing is - with one company - Art has been hired on and he can go with me on many jobs (when he's not working days) and we can get the work done in about half the time but claim the number of man-hours it took. Its really fun to have him with me.

I do miss working in an office - don't get me wrong. But I am not sure I want it enough to work for the wages that are offered in this area.

I'm probably going to keep my eyes open for jobs and maybe even fill out an application with the state (and check the ads for the city too) - but part of why I wanted this job so badly was I'd be working where Art would be....so we'd see each other a lot. I may even apply for a job working for the Air Force as a civilian out on the base...but as I said - the wages don't thrill me (and we'd need another vehicle - even if it was just a "beater car").

By the way - the company he works for has the simulator techs (his job) - the one admin (the job that is open) and the site manager. That's it.

I may try to see what other companies are in the building - like who does the scheduling department and get on with them....or what other simulator companies (contractors) are in the building.

I know - in this economy I probably sound bad turning up my nose at $8 - $10 per hour. I don't mean to sound arrogant. Its just - if I work full time with a set schedule - we're looking at additional expenses for another vehicle, insurance, gas, clothing and I'm sure our food costs will go up as I won't cook as much homemade. Plus - Art & I can't spend as much time together and while many may think I'm wrong when I say this - we're truly "best friends" and enjoy working together and being together.

Art & I are going to talk some more about this - and I'm going to probably start making a list of what I want in a job and stuff while I'm applying (if I apply around).

I think I'm going to need a couple of days though to get over the idea of not being able to take this - Art was really really hoping I'd get it because he said it would be perfect for me....and from so much of what he said and what I knew about it - it would've been perfect for me.

Peg, I'm so sorry. I really thought you'd get that job.

Times are so tough and I know it's so hard right now. I hope you find the perfect job if you choose to change what you are doing. I think this would have been the one for you - I hate the little red tape things that hurt us that way!
