What do you use for "facials" (Avon, Mary Kay, Clinique, etc)?

2008 was supposed to be the year of changes for me...ha ha ha ha ha. I wanted to start doing facials again and take better care of my body.

Well...I guess it isn't too late...

In the past I've used Clinique....Mary Kay....Avon...even some stuff from Walmart (St. Ives?). I want to get started again - and I'm debating about what to go with.

Finances are going to have something to do with the decision - which is why I'm considering Avon (especially considering someone left an Avon book here which reminded me about all this).

I guess what I'm trying to get at is - what do you use (if you have some sort of a regular routine)? Why do you use what you use?

I loved Clinique - but I'm not sure I can find it here - and it is sorta pricey. I'm sure I can get Mary Kay...same with Avon and of course - same with stuff in Walmart. We also have a JC Penney which might have stuff - I don't know.

I think that smells also affect my desire to use products like this and be faithful...I liked the St. Ives becuase of hte smell and texture of the product.

But deciding what to use is tough - if I spend more - I tend to be more faithful in using it....but I don't want to waste money just to force myself to use stuff consistently....

(and I know - I ramble far too much).

Oh - I was thinking specificially about the Avon Anew Rejuvenate....

Edited to add: OUCH - I just looked at the Avon prices - $32 for one thing - $48 for another....OUCH!

i've used a St Ives blue mud one mom had, and nutragenia(sp?). i love them:)

Goat kisses, doggy licks, pony kisses, hahaha !

Seriously, I don't really use products on my face, and thankfully have never had blemishes/pimples,etc. ... I get compliments on my complexsion ... so I guess the "animal kisses" work good for me ! Jee, if only I could bottle it ! LOL ! ;)

However ... I HAVE used Mary Kay, and I HAVE used Avon, etc. and I will say that my favorite is ... well ... that's a hard decision, because imo both Mary Kay and Avon were both wonderful products, the difference is that Avon is cheaper. So I'd have to say my favorite would be Avon. Unless you get lots of animal kisses ... hehehe ! That's the top choice !

Oh and ... how could I forget ... TONS of kid kisses ... the human kind :) My daughter is a little love bug (like me) and she gives me kisses all the time ... so give and get lots of kisses and you will GLOW !

Dial soap.

:D

LOL! I don't do the whole facial thing cause usually those masks and stuff end up making my skin worse. I have always had good skin but it's very sensitive also.

I really like Oil of Olay. I use the night cream and the day serum. For my eyes I use the Target brand eye serum. I don't bother with the expensive face washes. I just use Lever 2000 and a washcloth.

Oh! Another brand that I really like is Roc. You can get it at Walgreen's. Both of these seem to improve the texture and tone of my skin and they aren't SUPER pricey.

Currently trying about a million different things, I've developed rosacea this year and I'm utterly miserable, I cry when I see myself in the mirror :(. Nothing helps it!

It's a condition where I always look like I'm blushing furiously and also have rough skin with lots of bumps, not pimples, just ugly red bumbs. I just spent $50 on some makeup and it didn't cover anything :grumpy:.

Before this year I always had lovely skin and just used nivea stuff.

Michelle, have you discussed this with your doctor? I get a mild case on one cheekbone in the fall and my doc gives me a cream that gets rid of it.

I don't use anything. I have asked before to a few make up users I know and they all say that my face doesn't need anything special that it is good.

I use Aveno for my daily facial routine, a face wash, astringent , wrinkle cream and a lotion. As far as above and beyond that i have St ives apricot scrub, boire black head mask ..... the warming one. Oh i have a really neat mask it is in a tube it is a mint Julep mask, and it is very wonderful, lol. In the past i have used Mary Kay and it is wwwaaaaayyyy to oily for me, i have used some of the Avon stuff that isnt bad. When money becomes no problem for me i am going to invest in the Nurtimin Stuff, it is expensive but it is not animal tested and doesnt have alot of the bad stuff in it that your normal stuff has.

I'm so happy! I just went back to look at face creams and foundations and found some stuff that really works for me.

I got some oil of olay sensitive daily moisturiser, a cream cleanser by a company called olive and some mineral powder foundation by maybelline. It all made my face feel nice and soft and the mineral powder stuff is amazing . It made my face look flawless. I will have to post a with and without pic tomorrow :D. It doesn't feel dry or cloggy.

Ali, the chick who sold me the stuff actually looked a lot like you . She said she didn't wear any makeup really, just some bronzer and eyeliner. I think if you have good skin all you need is something to even out the complexion as everyone has lighter and darker parts of the face.

Peg? I have been using Bare Essentials Make Up for about a year now and love it!:D

It's all mineral makeup. The start up is a bit pricey, but it lasts. And, if you see an infomercial on it? It's dead on for what this stuff does! So, this stuff is all powder, no liquids. I love it, it's actually amazing how this powder covers! I'm about to go get Maybelline's foundation as I'm about out of the Bare Essentials and it's a bit cheaper, but, I figure, if it's "mineral makeup" should be the same thing for a few dollars cheaper. I also plan to get a blush in that brand of the Mineral line. This line comes with the Mosturizer, which is great. I just don't "exfoliatiate,or do "facials". Never have. Is that bad? Haha;).

Just a suggestion to what you may like, it doesn't feel like you are wearing anything, it's so cool.;)

I really like the Maybelline minerals, thanks to you actually for first pointing out mineral foundation to me Crys :D. I tried quite a few different brands of loose mineral powder at the shop and that one was the nicest. Some of the cheaper ones felt dry and were a bit cakey, but the Maybelline one was good. You can't see it when it's on, not like some other foundations that sit in your pores or wrinkles.

We don't have Bare Essentials here but we have an infomercial for Sheer Cover, I keep wanting to give it a go but it's so expensive , especially with the shipping.

Thats about me. I use some eye shadow (not often), bronzer and I prefer lip glosses to lip sticks.

Some time back I got a free sample size of Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel. I had tried dozens of moisturizers and they all made my face break out. The Clinique, however does not. (There is also a Cream formula, which is for dry skin.)

I decided I need to start using moisturizer regularly, so I bit the bullet and bought a bottle of the stuff. I now use it most days, and I love it. I'm really sensitive to smell (changing shampoo will give me a headache for a week until I get used to a new fragrance), but this has almost no fragrance. Also, even though it seems a little pricey, I have found that I only need one little squirt from the pump bottle. It seems like just a tiny amount, but it's just enough. I think the bottle will last 3 or 4 months, even using it every morning.

I just use oil free Clean & Clear to wash my face, it makes me feel nice and tingly. Also the only face wash I've tried that doesn't make me break out. I figure, since that's pretty inexpensive, I can afford the Clinique.

A couple weeks ago I got some samples of Lotus Fresh Eye Gel that is absolutely wonderful. Just a little dab under the eye, puffiness is gone! Also, it feels really light and refreshing. Don't know if I'll be able to afford it when I run out of the samples, though.

I pretty much don't wear makeup beyond mascara and lipstick, and the occasional eye liner, and I'm really happy with the way my skin looks after using these products for about a month.

Beth, I am TOTALLY with you on the Clinique moisturiser! The Dramatically Different Gel is brilliant stuff. I'm really prone to oily skin, that still gets dry and I use that. I use a tiny squirt that is more than enough in the mornings and evenings and a meduim sized bottles lasts about 6 months or so! So it seems expensive, but when you think how long it lasts for it's really not.

I'm a firm believer with cosmetics etc that if you find a product that is really really good, but is just that little bit more expensive, is it worth spending that little bit more to get something that works, or spending less money on something that isn't going to be as good and end up replacing it with different stuff down the line anyway? And when Steve ever mentions what I spend on cosmetics, I always say 'it's going on my face! I want it to be good!' :p

Saying that, some own-brand or cheaper brand stuff is really really good. I love Maybelline make-up! And Rimmel is really good too...

I don't actually use any face masks as such, although I do have the Clinique one, but I forget what it's called now, I'll have a look later! I only really use them when I'm feeling really run-down and want to cheer myself up. My skin went really horrible when I'd had my operations, so I got some then to cheer myself up :)

I use Clinique Gentle Exfoliator, every couple of days to get rid of the dry skin, and then I just use Johnson's Clean and Clear which is about £3 the rest of the time! My skin isn't perfect but it's a lot better than it used to be...

Oh gosh I know I'm going on a bit now, but I've also recently discovered Dermalogica and ordered a travel pack, with sample sized bottles cheap from Ebay. I love, love, LOVE their stuff!! I was having really, really, really oily skin until I used their shine-control gel. Plus you hardly need any of it, so a sample size has lasted me for months!

One other thing- Ebay!!! You can get Clinique, and loads of other expensive brands so much cheaper there than in the shops, or even in other online stores. Just make sure that the seller is reputable and it's not likely to be fake lol. I buy mot of my major cosmetic stuff on Ebay. :D

And now I'm going to shut up because I could go on about make up etc aaaalllll day! :p

I use Artistry Essentials. It is a mineral makeup that is really good quality, but tons cheaper than the other mineral makeups I have found.

At the risk of being skewered... I use this..

My mom is addicted to it...and she always instilled in me that a womans hair and skin are her most glorious attributes.. so she buys me gift baskets of it for every holiday/birthday.

I swear when I use this... I have no pores... I think I look like one of those Final Fantasy Video game chicks..

spensive taste there Zin but it is very good stuff :D;)

I have been finding it very interestign reading about all your skincare routines lol. Jen I have used Dermalogica in my salon since i opened nearly 10 years ago wouldnt use anything else on my skin and havent in 13 years ever since i reacted to a decleor product and it damaged my skin felt horrid all day till i went home and put my dermalogica on and all the stinging went away! They have fantatsic science behind their products and have a lot of typically known allergens taken out of them. they also do not test on animals. I have had fantatsic results with all skin types using it as well as my own skin and a little goes a very very long way!!! One thing i would say is it is a huge range and if anyone wants to use it do yourself a favour and go get their skin mapping done first as you really need that to get the best out of the products :D

With an oily skin you have to be very careful as a lot of cheaper products comtain low grade mineral oil, lanolin and alchohols which initially make you feel less oily but it strips off the natural oil from your skin so as the day goes on you will actually produce as much as twice to 3 times as much oil which defeats the purpose and actually makes you more oily!!

also NZ minilops they have a fantatsic range for rosacea which greatly reduces redness and irritation :)
