Hey Pam, is that a standard or a mini? I was just wondering, it looked like it had really long ears for a rex. I know mini's usually have shorter ears, but I haven't been around any standards in a long time. Thanks!

Rex - Some breeders are a little sensitive about the term "Standard Rex" - there's no such thing - a Rex is a Rex ;) There are no ear length specifications for the Rex - but the one in the photo does have some darn big ears LOL.

The Amber officially becomes an accepted variety for the Rex breed on Feb. 1 of this year.

Yes - Rex and Mini Rex (don't offend Rex breeders by saying "Standard" Rex).

The only breed with Standard in the name is the Standard Chinchilla.

We do use the term "standard" to refer to the variety color of breeds that only have one variety. For example: Florida white = Standard (Exceptions: Giant Angora = Ruby Eyed White and the Mini Satin = White)

Another oddity; both BEW and REW are accepted in Mini Rex, but BEW is BEW and REW is "white".

Seems like nit-picking, but ARBA youth contests are extremely competitive and exacting, so the kids need to learn this information properly.Proper terminologyis also important for registration purposes. When I first got my registrar's license, I registered a Beveren as a "blue-eyed white". The registration was not accepted (no such variety) -Beverens aresimply"white" (even though it's a blue-eyed white).

Ok, I didn't realize that would actually be offensive. I guess I always just called Rex "standard" to differentiate between the big uns and the little uns, LOL.

I haven't shown Rex, only the Mini's, but if I remember the Standard of Perfection correctly, it does give a length limit for the Mini Rex, doesn't it?
