I have a arbbit named Nibbles. He is a chinchillacolored bunny. Nibbles has big ears. And hes a little fat and very big.Does anyone have a clue what kind of breed Nibbles is?

No, sorry. I dont have any pic's. If I did, Iwould put one on here. Well actully I took some pic's of him the otherday but they are not developed yet.

There are many different breeds of Chinchillacolored rabbits. Posting an exact weight, and clear photo andcountrythe rabbit is fromwould be veryhelpful. Satin, Giant Chin, Am. Chin, Flemish are some of thelarger breeds in the USthat have chinchilla color.

I wasunaware that Flemish came in chinchilla color. Are you sure Pam? Ithought it was black, white, fawn, sandy, steel gray, andbluefor the flemish giant. Is the blue considered chinchilla?

You forgot one variety :) The "Light Gray" Flemish is actually the Chinchilla color.

Never -- the blue is a self color, where the "light gray" is an agouti color know as chinchilla in other breeds.

that pic looks exactly like my rabbit! hes probably a flemish then right? is that a flemish one?

Funny that we were talking about the light grayFlemish -- I judged youth Flemish on Sunday (all two of them) -- onewas a light gray.

I hold a special place in my heart forlight grays. Athena was a light gray and on of the does I'm getting isgoing to be a light gray. They are so pretty.

LOL this forum is so active i dont notice threads are there till theyre LOOONGG!

But, latley i have been wondering... How do you tell the difference between a light gray flemish giant and a giant chin???

The Flemish are generally larger and don't haveamaximum weight as the Giant Chins do. The arch onthe Giant Chin should start at the middle of the shoulder, where theFlemish arch begins after the shoulder -- this would give them a muchlonger shoulder.

A major difference is the fur type. Flemish have a roll back coat and Giant Chins have a flyback coat.

In reality, due to the rarity of the Giant Chins, there has been a lotof crossing with Flemish. Most of the Giant Chins that I'veseen have a slow, open coat -- not the flyback coat they are supposedto have.

Thanks! where i am, giant chins are fairly common, but then so are many"rare" breeds, but i had been wondering for breed ID purposes, if icame across a chinchilla colored giant rabbit and that was the onlygiant semiarched type one, how would i know which it was!!

So thanks!

In theory, it *should* be obvious by thecoat. Hopefully, if they put a Giant Chin(flyback)or Light Gray Flemish (rollback)in thecontest, they would be certain it had a proper coat so you could tellthe difference.
