So my friend bought a bunny right after I did. A purebred Havana boy that was only 5 1/2 weeks (and too tiny). Well, her husband didn't want one from the get go, and she is barely getting along with raising her daughter and supporting her bills as it is, but she went out and bought herself one.

Well, needless to say she asked me if I could take him since her husband was going to get rid of it and she couldn't take care of it. I already have two little does and didn't want a third bunny so I told her to put flyers up and maybe look at rescue clinics. Then they hit rock bottom. This morning my boyfriend went to hang out with her husband and chill on their day off, when I got a text from him saying to meet him by our apartment's dumpster.

After 15 minutes we found the box that had the little guy in it. He's 'ok' for the most part and he's within our care. I just can't believe someone would do something like that, needless to say I'm not speaking with my friend and if I had more evidence I would turn her husband in. But all I'm worried about now is to get this little guy started with a new better life with fresh food and a warm place to sleep.

We named him Devon, and I believe he is a broken white and grey color? Not 100% on that yet. :)

lol I wish it was a girl, but it's a boy ;) From what I feel he's a bit underweight. He's 6 weeks and aparently they only gave him a few handfuls of pellets every now and then and no hay.

Well I'm glad to give him a nice home, but now I wont have a cage for him until tomorrow when I get paid. Bella our oldest is to bossy for him (and still bossy to Maria) so I put Maria and him together, Maria's still around his size and she's not as pushy. He's scared about me still but has grown attached to Maria. :)

I have a feeling it will take him some time. After what he has been thru I would not trust either.

But trust me after a while of a better life he will come around and he is still young. I hope everything works out remember they can breed as early as 12 weeks so be careful.

Oh and thank you for helping this little guy. I would call the humane society and see what can happen. Or you local spca.

That is so awful! He's very lucky that you came along and rescued him.

Are your girls spayed? If they are, and you get this boy neutered, you may be able to bond a pair of them or even a trio at some point.

No they're not spayed yet, I will be getting them all fixed as soon as they're able to be and this little guy will be getting his own crate tomorrow thankfully so he can have his own space.

I do have a question, from what I heard he has not been given hay and has only been on a pelleted feed on a non-free feeding basis. His stool is runny from what I've seen, is there anything that can help him? And should he have hay and pellets available at all times?

thank you for taking him in!!!!!!! he is lucky to have found you and lucky your boyfriend told you about him. I too would not have anything to do with them after something like that. Good luck with him

I would gfive him as much hay as he will eat. You should post something in the infirmary about his loose stools- it can get serious fast in a rabbit that young. Good luck!!

I second this. All they hay he wants.
I would make a post in infirmary.

Please post this info as some of the infirmary folk might not see this thread

What horrible friends. It's one thing I think to disagree on certian topics, but how could you be friends with someone so cruel?

I am glad you took her in.

I would also give unlimited hay, I wouldn't free feed the pellets yet, but give him a good amount each day.

also, I would be making sure he is hydrated. from the sound of it, he wasn't taken care of properly and that could mean he also didn't have fresh water to drink all the time. I would be watching and making sure he is drinking enough and everything. even possibly offering him a bottle and a bowl so he can pick what he likes best.

and again, thank you for taking him in, poor little boy. I hate to think about what kind of painful death he would have had on trash day.

people make me so mad at the human race sometimes. how did people ever become so cruel?

Update:

Well he's settling in slowly, I gave his little bum a small 'bath' since with the runnyness of his stool his was well in need of one. He was pretty good about it and when it came time to wrap him in a towel to dry and sit with me he fell fast asleep. :)

I don't think he's ever had hay. Is that weird to say? He tries to nibble some and act like he doesn't know how to chew it. He's starting to eat pellets just fine but with the hay he just is clueless. Maria is starting to try and show him by place hay pieces in front of him but he just grabs it and puts them aside. Odd.

Other than that he's starting to eat, drink, and binky (I had to put him in the play pen to clean the cage and he had a blast doing bunny 500s and binkies every other second lol). :biggrin2:

He is a beauty! Poor little guy, that is awful. I like the name Devon. It may take him a while to get used to eating hay or even to understand he's supposed to eat it. I see it quite a lot in bunnies that came from situations that were not given hay.

Well I made an appointment with our vet for tomorrow, I'm concerned about him being so thin and the runny stool and bloated belly. He might hate being poked and prodded but it's for the best. :)

I'm glad he's going to the vet!

Also, how old is your girl? I would separate them soon, in case he's actually older than 6 weeks. Wouldn't want baby bunnies!

Don't quote me on this, but I think they usually need to be separated by 10-12 weeks or so - they're probably ok playing together for a few more weeks. I thought your girl was older.

Hopefully a breeder drops in and confirms or denies my statement :p
