Hi everyone. This happened to my bunny's eye literally overnight. She's acting perfectly fine but I'm concerned about her eye. I will take her to the vet but vets here aren't very specialized with bunnies. I tried wiping her with cotton pads soaked in chamomile tea (I've read that it has soothing effect) but no improvement. The fur under the eye is also matted. She's had weepy eye in the past but not this much and it went away in 2 days. I don't know if this is because of hay dust or fur stuck in the eye or something serious. She's been at the vet 2 weeks ago, they've checked her teeth and said everything's good, so i don't think it's a teeth problem. Her eye was literally perfect yesterday. Any idea what might be going on?

If there's no white discharge, clouding of the cornea, or a bulging eye,, and if bun is still eating ok, I would try flushing the eye with a plain sterile saline eye drop(eg. natural tears) in case it's just some debris stuck in the eye.

But if that doesn't resolve the irritation, or if there is any white sticky discharge, white clouding of the cornea, or the eye is bulging at all, she'll need to be seen by a rabbit vet right away, as those are signs of infection or other serious eye problem. She could have conjunctivitis, or she may have scratched the cornea. Either one needs to be treated with the appropriate antibiotic eye drop. She may also need meloxicam to reduce inflammation and provide some pain relief.

My bunny had this same issue a few days after I adopted him, I think it may have been from one of the hays which was a bit dusty. It was just a constant tear.

I sent photos and spoke to my vet through whattsapp and was told to clean his eye twice a day with cooled down boiled water. His eye was back to normal 2 days later.

Oh and I also took more care to shake away all the dust from any hay I was giving him.

thank you so much turns out my bunny poked herself with something from the hay because her eye is normal now
