Okay, so not only did I have an emergency yesterday (see my other post), but my buns did as well. Together, we might all have the market for antibiotics. But at least we're all doing okay.
So, I posted about a week ago about my bun, William, sneezing. No discharge of any kind and he was eating, drinking, and everything a-okay. It was decided he probably had allergies as once I cleaned it seemed to clear up.That was until yesterday...and pardon me as I'm still feeling like a horrid bun-mom.
I do daily checks of all of my rabbits. I weigh once a week. I listen to their stomachs daily, pet them, feel them, and look them over. I do this religiously - even when I was sick as a dog. Everybun seemed fine and I wasn't worried...until yesterday morning.
I woke up to sneezing. And not one, not two, but ALL my buns had gone off their feed over night. Upon further inspection, Ruby had thick white discharge coming from her eye. William had a thinner discharge coming from his nose. Silvie and Lennox seemed okay save for a sneeze here and there and Einstein showed no symptoms other than having gone off his feed. They all failed treat tests. So off to the vet I went (with gratitude to this site for their vet listings as my usual vet was not available).
Well, after leaving the vet with their entire supply of Baytril, all of my buns are being treated for, "snuffles." The culture hasn't come back yet, but we're suspecting it's pastuerella. I'll know for certain in the next couple of days. Until then, each bun is getting .5ml of Baytril twice a day. They've had two doses thus far and at least everyone is still hanging in there. They've all started back on their feed (at least in small quantities) and are munching on hay and drinking water. They have taken some romaine lettuce and cilantro as well. I'm keeping a very close eye on them, but I'm thinking that we caught this early.
They'll be on the Baytril for a minimum of 2 weeks and then we'll get them re-checked at the vet. I'm a nervous wreck and between being very sick myself and my rabbits being sick...I'm overwhelmed beyond belief. So prayers are both welcome and appreciated. Any suggestions or personal experience is welcome as well.
Please, just let my babies be okay...
