It says you get 4 cubes, butI think that's 16 grids, if I count the picture correctly. That's pretty cheap for $14.88 right?

Has anyone used the Walmart grids? Target doesn't sell there's online, and they are so far from me. But if they're cheaper, I may just make the trip there. Thinking about going today so I can get a head start on Harper's cage. We begin moving in to our new place tomorrow, and I want it all set-up for him.

I don't know about Louisiana, but I just bought some NIC cubes from Target.

6 cubes for $12.99!!!! They're on special. Are they worth the drive?

6 whole cubes? How many panels was that, over 20?

Wow, good deal for $12.99! That may definitely be worth the drive... (they didn't build a target in my city, they built it outside the city limits... nearly 45 minutes away with traffic, ugh!). But for that price, I may go anyways and check it out!

Yup. I think it's over 20. I have them at my new place right now so I can'tlook at the package.

I bought them for storage shelves, and I built four cubes last night and have a ton left over. I was so surprised by how sturdy they were too.

I can totally relate about everything being so far away. My parents are from a small town. Anything over ten minutes away is much too far! haha! I dont know if it's just a southern thing, but one of my friends from Maine thinks it's hilarious that we measure distance in time. :rofl:If you really think about it, it is.

ROFL, that's hilarious! And it's true too, I never thought of it that way. Everyone I know here does measure things in time instead of distance like mileage. How weird... LOL.

:?You mean all people don't measure distance in time? You rarely hear people say how far it is here, it's always "oh yeah, that's only about 30 minutes from here". And if you ask someone how far it is, you'r emore likely to be given a time frame than a distance. I thought that was normal...

hehe Maybe it is and she's the wierd one! I just thought it was really funny when she pointed it out.:tongue

Ok kinda of off topic but do you all think these cubes are sturdy enough to build a small computer desk? I can't get a desk to fits the boys' rooms and since we went all computer this year I have to build them desks. Was thinking two towers of the cubes with one inbetween at the top and doll rods across back for stability and then hardboard for their writing surface.

I recall reading in the instructions that the weight limit was 50 lbs, but don't quote me on that. I don't exactly know what they mean by a weight limit though. I don't know if it's for the whole structure or each individeal grid. I picked up the structure and shook it and nothing budged. Maybe someone else can be a little more helpful. Sorry. :dunno:

Yeppers....it 23 grids for $12.99 at Target. Their identical to NIC's, too.

We bought out the stock on black...10 cartons.

If you open a Target charge you can get 10% off. That's what we did, so we actually got one carton for free.

I bought my first NICs online and ended up paying 19.99 for 17 grids (=4 cubes )

In New Jersey we make reference to what exit off the NJ Turnpike.

"Yeah...I live down off exit 4A."
or
"We're just west of exit 16"

We can't do it in time with the traffic we have. I can get to work in 15 minutes in the morning, but going home the same way can take 45 minutes or longer... if it's bad.

This cage doesn't look like it'll take that many grids to build it with. Someone help me count! LOL.

Looks like 4 grids across on 3 rows... front and back, that's 24 grids.

Then on the sides, 2 grids across on 3 rows, that's 12 grids.

Then the top is 8 grids.

Then, I am going to build him a floor with the grids, then cover it with carpet, so that's another 8 grids.

Then his levels will take about 10 grids.

So that's a total of... 62 grids.

Jim, you said you get 23 in a box. So... 3 boxes is 69 grids. Good enough to start, for only $38.97 plus tax!

Just for the grids, that almost sounds too cheap. Did I calculate it wrong?

I'd be careful with carpet as that's almost asking for a GI block. :?I used Yoga mats and cut them to fit the cage. I love it! The rabbit I have it doesn't chew or bit on it and when I was litterbox training him all it took was a hose to clean the mats. Very easily to clean! I've had my yoga mats for 8 months now and haven't needed to replace them. The rabbit only scratched at the mats at first and those little marks are still there but other then that no problems! My cage is one 2 high and I used a 2 by 2 panel for the doors that way I could easily get in the cage to get things in and out.

I purchased my nics from Target as well and it was a 45 minute drive as well LOL! I can't measure distances by miles..it just takes too long LOL!I live in a smalltown of 90 people or so but only know about 30 of them as everyone's either old or stuck up and don't like our section of the town. Our section of town includes 12 houses with 4 empty and we do the whole front porch sitting, yelling across the road at each other, kids playing baseball, soccer etcin the one neighbor's yard that's empty right now.

As far as directions go we refer to "Well, you know where the Smith's used to live.. I don't know who lives there now but you turn left there and then turn right where the old gas station used to be and we live in the house where the Johnsons used to live." Seriously! My grandpa tries to give me those kind of directions and sometimes I know what roads he's talking about but he gives me last names of like 20 years or so ago and I was very young or not even born yet when those people owned the propery. If a business changes it's name it's still refered to as the old name for years to come. The grain elevator used to be Contential Grain but changed names about 15 years ago but everyone still calls it Contential Grain as that's a local 'big attraction' as far as giving directions go. When telling someone new to the area how to get to our town the directions are easy LOL! You say the road name which is numbers as they are state routes followed with...watch out because the road is between two cornfields or a corn and bean field. :D

Would anyone know if Walmart in Canada sells these? I looked online in the Canada site but they don't seem to list them. I'd love to get some to set up larger indoor cages this winter for Anna and Raph.

Some of the ideas that members of this forum have for NIC cages are pretty awesome!

I don't know for sure.

I bought mine from London Drugs when they had a sale on. Buy one get one free.
Then Costco had a good price, and they came in different colours.

Rainbows! :)

Back! I bought 4 boxes of the black grids for $12.99 each. I'm working on his cage now, how exciting! I also bought the dowel rods and some tie straps. Wheeee!

I sooo hope the sale is still on tomorrow. As much as I cannot stand Target I"ll bite my tongue go in there and buy the things. I have to build a rabbit/ guinea cage and 2 desks.
