my rabbit bailey is very , very vocal , never seen or had a rabbit to say so much hes constantly humming , purring , an lots of other sounds , is this normal , any one else have a vocal bunny

Oh man, I could have a CHOIR with my vocal buns!

Flower honks/grunts, sometimes til she squeaks!

Maisie and Trixie sometimes honk, too...

Teeny likes to "talk" to whoever's passing by...which I have a video of, if you're interested.

Velveteen buzzes at me sometimes in wanting love (when I'm petting another bun)...it's really cute. I've tried to catch it on video before, but it's just too quiet.

So, yes, it's totally normal, and even kinda cute, to have a vocal bun. :biggrin2:

I think everyone who is new to rabbits assumes they are "quiet" creatures. I know I did, but boy was I wrong!

Devon is a vocal bunny. He always honks when he's excited or before he's about to thump. Amber tends to growl and grunt whenever she's upset. Both Amber and Devon will let out a relaxed tooth purr whenever they are pet. And when they aren't vocalizing, they make plenty of extra noise thumping or "redecorating" their kennel:biggrin2:

Pipp is getting more vocal the older she gets.

She always grunts (and charges me) when I go to leave our room (not sure if she doesn't want me to leave or if she doesn't want me to leave without putting a few pellets in her bowl), she's alsohonking and squeaking.

The best vocalizations I've ever heard, btw, were from Aurora369's Wildfire. When one of the boys would harass her, she'd sound EXACTLY likea chicken!

sas :biggrin2:

Nibbles used to do that chicken-squawk thing when I'd really annoyed her, but she's become a lot less vocal over the past year. I can't remember the last time she made this sound - OTOH, it might be that she's got me so well-trained that she has no need to make it anymore. ;)

I occasionally get some grunts from Lucy and Tumnus but on the whole my bunnies are pretty quiet!

Is she buzzing? Two of my foster boys do that when theyre excited-they sound like bees!

Vinny buzzes like a bee. He did this before he was neutered and now that it has been awhile, he still does it--mainly when he is chasing my cats and now when he runs after Joya.:)

He will grunt now and then and did so prior to me realizing he had an abscess. :( He grunted for a day or two after as well, but I think it was because he wasn't feeling well.

On occasion he'll grunt and charge if you catch him off guard by reaching into his cage to fill his water and he didn't hear you or see you.

Prince & Poodle grunt at each other at times or at myself or my daughter if they are cranky. They are still quite skiddish though (despite us trying to get them used to us).

Lol wow everyone has such vocal bunnies!!

My bunnies aren't particularly vocal- they growl every now and then if they are a annoyed- mostly at the cats, who just have to have a sniff every now and then. It's strange, the buns either have grooming sessions with the cats or are chasing them off!!!

If mine want attention they run right up to me and give me a hard nudge on the leg, or pull at my trousers. Or they just dive on my and proceed licking me.

Buzzing? What is this? They sort of buzz when I stroke their cheeks and give them a good rub on the head...I think it is them purring.

I've never heard this chicken thing- sounds so funny. Anyone havea clip or something? You've got meconstantly giggling at the thought!!!!

bailey buzzes and grunts occasionaly , my previous bunny tyler used to circle my feet humming and used to tooth purr but other wise was quiet , bailey goes from sounding like a bee to a pig , some times a cat and others a bird
