thanks. ill need to look at the local stores to find some of it. i need to get the medicine for the second bun, as she was probably exposed- she has soft poops now, but looks healthy and acts all vibrant and quick as always. maybe shes healthier but her poops are suddenly different, softer and all, so...

i just noticed on the printout that the white bun (sick one) only weighs 1.08 lbs. if she's a lop- i wonder what breed that'd make her, or if the weight could even tell me as much? it lists OTHER BREED on the printout, but i assume they just went with what i told them- that i had no idea other than she was a lop from the pet store.

It could be that she's still fairly young, so still is growing. The smallest lop breed that I know (holland lop I think) weighs aroundb 4lbs. With illness and age, she should put on weight as she grows and gets healthier.

shes starting to poop more. but its still soft. not runny or anything, luckily. the other bunny has runny poop and is in a different cage. i called to see if i could get a second bottle of the 12 dollar medicine for the sick bun to give to the second bun just in case, as she was housed with sick bun and suddenly has soft poops. the girl told me its illegal to give pet medication without examining the pet...not sure if thats true or not. im waiting on this one tho- shes vibrant, has some meat on her frame, isnt at all lethargic, etc. if i take the second bun thats gonna be another 95 bucks. no way i can afford that after the first 95 for a bunny that only cost 17 bucks!

That's terrible. Did you ever get a hold of the petshop to see what they say about taking the bill for it? I hope they get shut down!

Illegal? Hmm, I guess that couldbe a right law because if you were to give a rabbit something that might hurt it, it could do more damage then good. How much is a check up? Maybe take the other bun with thesick one in a weeks time to the vet to have looked at. The vet might check her for free and give the ok to put her on the medicine that you were looking for .

I never called the pet store myself. My gf who took the bun to the vet and actually purchased the rabbit to begin with (I am going to pay her back for it, as I will keep it now) called and the girl said she'd leave a note with the lady who deals with the rabbits and getting them from the breeder or whatever...didn't ask for any info, name, number, nothing. Just said, I'll write a note for her telling her your rabbit was sick and the vet had another bun from the same store with the same issue.

I guess I should try to call them...we don't have a receipt or anything tho. So they might end up saying- 'how do we know you bought it here?' or whatever.

The checkup was listed on the bill as $40. The fecal test was $20, and the medicine was $12. There were other fees on there too, but I can't remember what they were listed as. Total was 92 bucks. I have yet to set up the checkup appt- I have to ask my gf when the vet said we should do it...all I know is she said a week, but no appt was made or anything. I guess Ill have to figure that out tomorrow- what day we can do it (the vet was actually sort of out of the way...nearly in another city it was far enough away.) So, I'll have to remember to ask when we need to make the appt tomorrow when I see her.

The lady from the vet's office said that if they had seen the bun before they could give me meds for her...so, I guess maybe we can take the second bun in and say- look, you saw her, can we forgo the test and the checkup fee and just get the meds for now, as we're low on funds for this purpose? Maybe try to get her to become the regular checkup vet for the bun, so she knows we'll be coming back in the future and giving her business. Hmmm. Gotta work this out. :) Maybe I should have told her I lost the medicine or that I dropped it on the floor when I was opening it, and they could have given me a second bottle, thinking it was for the sick bun they DID see. lol. :)

Hmm. Did you thow away the receipt? If it's a half decent petstore, they should deal with your complaints to the best of their ability like any responsible business would do. Although judging from the rabbit care, I bet they are just acrappy 'for the money' business. Have you called the humane society? They might be able to look intoit.

Keep us posted!

we found the receipt and one manager told us no way would we get any sort of refund...their policy on small pets is 3 days- which, of course, is worthless. if they give you a sick animal, very few consumers are going to take their pet to the vet in the first 3 days! not to mention- if you DO take your pet to a vet within 3 days, youre still out the vet bill, then your only option is to get a refund of 1/5th of what you paid the vet and lose your animal! its absurd.

ive noticed shes eating the hay and pellets really well- shes drinking fine, ive given her her medicine everyday- but my problem now is that her poop isnt round at all. well, some of it obviously is, as i cleaned out the cage and theres round balls in there, but a lot of it now is long soft poop- VERY soft, you touch it it sticks to your hand. not sure what that means- is the medicine slowly working or not workin g at all with this development?

it looks like what my dog would poop out, but smaller. not round. very soft, very wet but still solid enough to stay together in a shape.

shes more active now tho, tries to get away and struggle more when you hold her, hops away on her own when allowed out of the cage and the other day she hopped so fast i had trouble catching her for a second.

I don't get those kind of petstores. Such idiots and jerks. They obviously know they are selling sick animals, but they don't care.I guess the best thing is to go somewhere and not support their awful business. I refuse to buy from places that sell rabbits. That is weird that you have to dish out all the money, they don't even refund you half of it, and you have to loss the money and give the animal back to them. That is stupid! Have you heard anything from the humane society?

Is there a lot of the soft poop? Or more of the round poop and a little of the soft?Has the soft poop increased in amount or decreased? If you only see them occasionaly, they could be excess cecal droppings (They usually consume this right from the source).

Here's a link about cecal droppings to see if they look like them? I see them occasionaly when Pepsi isn't eating.

Actually, I need to call and talk to this lady they said runs it all. Or maybe she's just doing the small animals. Not sure. The manager at teh store said no way they'd refund anything after 3 days, because they have that guarantee for 3 days, which- as I said- is worthless! So, I will call that lady, and if she doesn't give me anything in return, I'm going to contact the humane society and whoever else, because that's not right. If they're unwilling to work with customers after selling them sick pets, there might be worse going on, I'd think.

I don't think it's cecal pellets. It doesn't look like circles or bunches of grapes...just a solid mass that is shaped like a dogs poop really. I came home and there were maybe 3 of those and the rest that I THINK were new were roundish but soft still. Not TOO soft, but still soft to some extent. She is eating, because all the pelleted food was gone from the dish and she's eating hay when I came in and is chewing on it now...she's eating and drinking I know for sure.

And I'm sure she made lots of poop today, and I found just a few of the long ones, so that seems good...I say that because I put her on the bed for about 5 mins to walk around- and she probably dropped 10 poops. They were sorta soft, but none of them were the long ones...this was last night or maybe it was the night before. Maybe it is cecal droppings. Not sure- all the pics I've seen of them have some rounded shape to them and are bunched together. But maybe this is that and it just doesn't fit any the pics I've seen.
