Yeah.. didn't go so well.. I did all the work..

We had to Tatt for tommorrow's show..

Don't even ask about his jacket.. he got that on a bender down is Mexico.. like 15 years ago.. it's the sacred hoodie...

All hail the sacred hoodie...:singing:

We weighed the one's we wanted to use first to see who was closest in range..

Then we tried the burrito method I prefer..which he hated..

So we had to do it his way... and notice who's wearing the kevlar sleeves.. and who AIN'T....and I have no doctoral degree in cow groping either..

These pics are so neat! I've never seen a bunny be tattoo'd before!

How long do they generally last? Bruno had one in his ear that was just a R from his breeder, but after a year and a half it's almost faded.. is that normal?

Is that a sock that you put them in? might be helpful for nail trims and scent gland cleaning... also the tattoo pen looks just like my toothbrush. weird.

That's one of the newer electric models - its like writing in their ear (vs. the clamps).

Nope - they don't need pain meds but it helps if you've had a drink or two before doing them. (JUST KIDDING).

Perhaps they're different for dogs, but my 14 year old german shorthaired pointer has a clear 3 letter tat in one of her ears.

 You've got a GSP ? lol.

I use the shin peices of horse riding trousers to put Casper in to keep him still. Also works for guinea pigs, kittens, birds etc. and turns out pretty much like GBTC has the rabbit. Is it easy to learn to tattoo rabbits?

Excellent photo's Zin! Hmmm... where can I get me a set of them Kevlar sleeves?

The RabbiTatt costs about $50.00. It really is like writing with a thick pen. Yeah, the rabbits twitch a little, but it has to be annoying having that in buzzing in your ear! It does sting a little, (I speak from personal experience! I have several blue spots on my left hand from when I missed the ear!) but I still think it's easier on them than the old fashioned clamp style.

And yes, they make the tattoo pen out of an electric toothbrush handle, with special fittings on the end. (I actually put an ice cube behind the ear and chill the ear, so it doesn't hurt them. Works good.)

If the tattoo is done right, it should last the life of the rabbit. But if it isn't done right, not deep enough,or if the ink isn't good (the right consistancy), it can fade. But that is one of the pleasures of the pen, it's certainly easy enough to go over it.

I love the battery operated pens.

Good think you were there Zin, or none of them would have gotten done!

lol ouch!!!

So how does it work....do you have to keep dipping the pen in ink every so often?? Im looking to buy one of these next month because Im not so fond of the clamp ones and Im trying to get all the feedback on it as I can. Thanks for posting this by the way.....very informative to see it happening.:thanks:

I love my RabbitTat- it's so much easier than the clamps and seems to last longer (for me anyhow). Also, if you take too long the rabbits do get kind of anxious because it tickles and makes that annoying buzz. But don't worry because you can always read the tattoo and you can do them right before a show if you need. I think I paid around $40 for mine brand new. By the way- my pliers are now for sale! Lol!!

I find it helpful to practice on a bannana for a few tries first.

Basically yes, you just keep dipping the pen in the ink, then wipe vasoline on the tatt, then wipe the ear clean with a baby wipe.

Done properly, it should last the life of the bunny.

I will take some pics of my older buns with their ear tatts tommorrow. They have had theirs for 4 to 5 years.

It's really like writing with a pen.. a fat pen.

I have used it on myself with no ink, just to see the pain level, it's really not bad at all.. I think it's just because it's in the ear, which tickles, and the noise.

The key is to wrap the ear around the finger for stability, and to wedge the bunnies body against your body to keep it from jiggling around.
