Hi!
I have a question about feeding a 7-week old mini-lop fresh fruit or veggies for treats.
I have read so many different forums and have gotten so many different answersthat I am MAJORLY confused!
I don't know if it's ok to feed her a little fruit ora little greens.
I have read that it's ok -but only on the 3rd Friday in February duringa leap year when the sun's equinox is in full view of the Aquariusconstellation...

PLEASE TELL ME WHAT TO DO! LOL...
I started to give her a small piece of banana and got scared she wouldget sick so I only let her lick it and felt so guilty! My last rabbitdied of stomach problems and I am so scared of Trix dying. I am soparanoid now!

Thanks!
Denise

I am not completely sure but i think its too early for 7 week old bunny to be eating any fruits/veggies.

I don't feed any treats until the bunny is 6months old. Their digestive systems are not fully developedyet. I only give them pellets and hay. You can givethem cheerios (not to many) and oatmeal (quaker kind)notcookedthough. If given treats too early, they candevelop diarrea.

I've heard many opinions on this as well. Ithink a good rule of thumb, is that if you give any at all, just give alittle bit to see how their tummy reacts. If everything appears to befine, you can gradually increase the amount.

I believe it was rabbit.org had a guide line towhen to feed veggies and fruit. It said about four months itsok to try veggies, but I would wait on the fruit for a little while, just to be on the safe side. And you can never go wrong with timothyhay!

I read in a few places that you can give themleafy green lettuce, so you might want to try little bits of that. Notjust any lettuce, though, esp iceberg. In the food store near thevegetables you bag yourself, you will see a lettuce called 'leafygreen'. I pay about $1.69 a pound for it. it's healthy and cadburyloves it!

I always let my bunnies start eating grass andcarrots etc as soon as they are able to. Obviously in nature a babyrabbit would have nothing else to eat but grass and the vegetationaround it once it leaves it's mother. I havn't lost a baby yet and someof them even start to eat grass at around 3 weeks old. The mostimportant thing is that they stay with their mum as long as she willtollerate them as her milk plus eating her cecal poos gives the bunniesall the good bacteria they need to digest things like that.

In saying that though, the main part of their diet is always pelletsand lots of water at a young age. I guess it al depends on your bunnyand I'd just start slowly, maybe a blade of grass once a dayand build up from there. After all pellets have a lot of differentthings in them and they seem to be able to eat them ok.
