The rescue I volunteer forhad someone that wanted to trade their rabbit for another because it was mean. Turns out the rabbit wasn't spayed. Needless to say we did not trade.

People make me sick.

I was talking to an elderly lady last night and she mentioned that her two kids when they were children received 2 rabbits as easter gifts...and of course they mated. She said after they had babies she had seperate hutches built for them so they would not be together again. (good idea, right?) Well she also said that after they put the parents in hutches the babies were just free roaming the yard until they all disappeared. :grumpy:

My rabbit Domino is shy, you don't see me asking to "trade" her for a new rabbit?
I don't think it'sreally horrible, only because I actually think people should try fostering bunnies first and when they get a match, they can adopt. If they don't bond with the bunny, they try again after the current bunny is adopted or moves to another foster home. That ensures happy bunnies, happy guardians and a better chance at more fosters/adoptions in the future.

Everybody supportsthe idea of letting their bunnies pick a compatible partner, why not the humans?

The arguments against may be that the shy bunnies, the disabled, the old and the mean will be left behind, but there's always people like me to take those ones. ;)

And you just can't force someone to fall in love with a bunny. You can expect unconditional support, but if there's another option, like a trade, someone shouldn't be the devil for suggesting or trying it. Maybe if the poster gets a great match, he/she will be so smitten, they'll get more bunnies. If they're saddled with one they just don't have feelings for, it will end after they serve their 'commitment'.

I think it's very badgiving up a bunnyto a pet store or a shelter, but taking steps to try again without displacing anybunny else or compromising the level of care is a far better thing to do.

If that bunny may be a better match for someone else who will truly love it, then why not? It gives the poster the opportunity to try for a better match for them, too. The humans are happier, the rabbits are happier.

I hope that personisn'tdiscouraged by thetypical judgemental flood of CL flaggers. :(

True True.

I din't get to read the link because my computer is acting up but someone wants to trade a bunny for a ferret?.

Wow. Like I could understand you talking to a friend and being like 'Hey, Do you want to trade bunnies for a week" For fun but with people you don't know.

Like that person can't actually think that all people would be nice to it.

I guess it's alot better then letting it run.

I agree that if the family is not a match for the rabbit, they should be able to rehome it to someone who is, but to just say they will trade it blindly for ANYTHING else. It doesn't sound as though any of those posters have any intention of interviewing the new owner or anything. It really does sound like they are trading property and not considering that the rabbits are living beings.

The first poster that wants to trade for another rabbit, sounds like they are seeking rabbit savy people, and a better fit. The fish tank guy still upsets me.

I think for once I am going to at least partially disagree with Pipp.

The reason I don't like the idea of just trading a rabbit with some stranger is because it seems to me to show not much commitment. I mean, my doe Charity is cantankerous, doesn't like being picked up or really even petted much, and is jsut not that much of a pet. But there is no way I would let her go to anyone, especially some stranger, because when I took her in I made her a promise that she would spend the rest of her days here. Regardless.

I have also spoken with so many people who think the rabbit is there jsut to make them happy...... One woman that sticks in my head, is one that was friends with some people I had sold a pair of Flemish too. These people were 4-Hers, I had "interviewed" them and was satisfied with them. Then this woman saw the pair, and decided she had to have one. She called me and asked if I had any babies, and she was determined it be a little baby. I said I had a five week old litter, but that I didn't let them leave their mother until they were 8-9 weeks, so she would have to wait.

This woman proceeded to keep me on the phone for 20 minutes trying to convince me to let her have one NOW. She said, well can I come look at them today? I said, you can look but not take one home. She got mad at me over that, and for some reason told me that she had put a deposit on a baby at the petstore, but now she was going to get her money back because she wanted a Flemish instead.

Sorry, this got much longer than I meant.

Currently I am looking to trade:

  • My kidney for a PS3
  • My little sister for a new dodge challenger when they come out in '09
  • My dignity for a prada hand bag...
Heh, some people seem to have lost their sense of value. It is absurd.

BTW, just in case anyone is not sure, I am joking about the trading stuff.

It would be wonderful to keep an eye out for ads like this, and try to match them up with someone here on the forum who has a place for them, that knows how to care for their bunnies and understands their value. It is a cryin shame that people treat living creatures with little concern for their happiness. :X

And Theodore is a royal pill, but I would never trade him away. I love him even if he is a turd.

Yeah same here. That's why thiscaught my attention in the first place.

That guy wanting to trade the rabbit for ANYTHING is really upsetting though. That poorbunny :(
