Pebbles will lean and stretch over the edge, but never fallen or jumped out of her cage.
She is so good, that I can leave the top off all the time.

The litterbox that they wee/poo in is the tealish one in the back, the litterbox in the front is where I put the hay and they eatfive or sixhandfullseveryday. The hay box is also where sherbert sleeps.

I've often wondered about Pebbles jumping out of there as well! She's a very well behaved bunny in that case- mine would be out and running round causing chaos within seconds! :p

Another thing I've found with hay is that they like to eat the new stuff, rather than the old stuff. So now, when I fill up the hay racks, I pull some of the old stuff out from the bottom, and rustle it around a bit, whilst adding a small amount of new stuff. Then they all come running over (as they do whenever hay arrives- they love it!) and think it's all new, and munch away :D

I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself right now- on top of the usual meadow-mix that I normally buy locally, I've just ordered a big bag of Oxbow Timothy and a bag or Orchard Grass hay that arrived this afternoon. As I opened the bag, Snowy was literally jumping up at the cage for it! All the bunnies came running and immediateluy munched their way through a pile of each type of hay :) I'm going to be mixing it in with the normal cheap hay I buy so that they get a variety, and the more expensive Oxbow stuff will last longer :D

Sneaky. :D

I take Pebblesold hay/pellets and dump them into Bebe's dish, because Bebe eats everything. :p

I have a hay rack directly above the litter boxes so they can sit in the litter boxes and munch on hay at the same time. They pull out whatever they don't want and it drops in the litter box. I guess I monitor consumption based on when I'm watching them - they often eat a lot at night and they are in my bedroom so I know when they are eating - and by how much is left in the litter box when the rack is empty.

However, they much prefer the challenge of getting it from the source:

climbing inside the bin at run time:

:biggrin2: I think this must make it more fun for them.

Or tipping the whole thing over:

My bun's hay rack is a NIC panel bent in a U shape and connected to the side of his cage with clips. I attach it so its right above his litter box. I started this when he was little as I noticed he would poop while he ate his ate. So I moved his hay over his litter and problem sloved :)

It makes very little mess and what does fall out lands in his box, so its easy to clean.

My guy eats about 2 hay racks full a week.

AND why is it they love the fresh stuff, and won't eat the leftovers? Only one or two in our house will polish off every strand 'til there's no evidence behind.
My one girl, Emma, is like that: She'll run like crazy for newly-placed hay; she tends to ignore hay that's been in her manger for 24+ hours. But, sometimes, she'll make an exception and eat what's in her manger. :?
