We have had Tobi(lionhead)for 2 1/2 weeks now and he is doing great. He is now about 11 wks old and he is growing by the day.
Anyway I am looking for some good home made toy ideas.
We have bought him pretty much all the chewing bunny toys we found at the petshop but he doesn't seem to like to chew. Is that unusual that a bunny doesn't chew his toys?
We have found he really likes plastic dixie cups. He picks them up and throws them. Any other ideas for toys?:?
We bought him a pack and play for the living room and he loves doing laps in it and playing with his toys. He is doing well potty training. HE isn't 100% yet but he is getting there.
Anyway he has quite the personality and is super fun we are really enjoying him.

cardboard boxes with 1-2 entrance/exit holes cut in them are a big hit. mine also like to play with a plastic spoon if I'm there to hand it to them and retrieve it when they throw it.

other toys my bunnies love:
cat cubes (their new favorite since I re-discovered my former kitty's cubes and offered them - they liked them so much I bought a couple more last night).
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sportpet-Cat-Cat-Play-Cube-1-ct/10532707
(they're like $4 each in the store and can be connected together)

tunnels:

http://www.petco.com/product/116627/WARE-Fun-Tunnel-for-Small-Animals.aspx?CoreCat=LookAhead
(they like both but seem to somewhat prefer the crinkle tunnel. I like petco's better than the one at walmart - it costs a little more but is 5' long instead of 3')

ware willow balls:

(that site is best if you buy in bulk to counteract the shipping costs; it can also be found at petsmart if you just want to try one, they're just more expensive there if it turns out to be a big hit)

you can also find good toys at dollar stores... whiffle balls, cat balls, plastic slinkies, hard plastic baby toys (keys, etc.)

do you have a link to the willow tunnel, btw? I've never heard of that but it sounds like something my bunnies would ADORE

I have a willow ball already and he isn't too impressed. Also I tried the toilet paper tubes and paper towel tubes and those were not a big hit either.
We have cat toys and other dollar store balls in there too.
He must be a hard rabbit to impress :)
I am gonna try the plastic spoon though since he really likes to throw the plastic dixie cup so much he might really like the spoon. THanks for all the good ideas!!!! Keep them coming ;)

have you tried stuffing hay in the toilet paper/paper towel tubes? that's the only way to get my bunnies to show any interest in them.

Shiny Things is the only one that plays with toys at my place. Even my dog will not play. (her idea of play is attacking my moms cat). Her favorite toy is this plastic tweety bird baby toy we got at the dollar store. She also likes wiffle balls. She will roll them over her head. She likes to move the litter box around (though she has not done that since she started living with Beauty). For their hay I zip tie a handful together and hang it in their cage on a carabeener. I make a bin full at a time of these. Shiny Things likes to put her toys in her water bowl. She also likes to constantly rearange her space. When she is out to run she has a plastic shopping bag that she bites and throws around. (do not worry, I makes she she it not putting holes in it or eating any of it by accedent).

Some bunnies "play" more than others. So don't feel bad if he doesn't seem to like all the toys.

Agnes likes paper. I gave her this old thick pamphlet type binder book and she loves chewing and digging at the paper.

Archie, on the other hand, is my clown. He LOVES balls. I have this plastic ball with mini balls inside that he will push with his nose. It's so cute. I think he likes the noise it makes.

Thats another thing, rabbits do like bells and shakers and noisy toys too. I gave archie and Agnes some of my sons old baby rattles and they like those too.

Otherwise ditto to all the other toy ideas listed here too :)

Teddy doesn't play with toys that much, but the new bun's foster parents told me she LOVES to play with this little plastic toy ball thing, and she also has a stuffed animal that she's basically in love with. Apparently she can't go anywhere without it. It came with her to the date when her and Teddy met.

Plastic cups are a great idea. I haven't tried that.

In general, the "home made" toys turn out to be the most popular--cardboard boxes, paper towel and tp rolls and oatmeal boxes, etc. Paper bags filled with cardboard and paper are good for hours of fun and my bunnies love to sort through bags of recyclables:)

Willow balls are their favorite chew toys and I got a Ware Tunnel recently that my bunnies have been having fun with.

Melody doesn't play much and never did. He will chew a toilet paper roll if it has hay in it but once the hay is gone her pretty much ignores it. My Ceri loved to toss her carrot rattle and perch on top of her "little house" ( the small dog house in her cage). Now Magnum would attack an open paper bag every time he saw one and Petals likes to toss and pull her slinky.
