Hi :) New to the forum and I'm not really sure where to ask this so let me know if this is in the wrong place but..

I've had my bunny for a few months now and from what I've read on the net and whatnot, he seems to be decently happy (what with his jumps and binky-ing)... but I feel kinda bad because he seems so bored in his cage ><

I've tried some of the ideas like tissue rolls or toys from the pet store but he generally gets bored after... 2 minutes? I've never seen him play with any particular object that I leave in his cage longer than that and is a lot more happy when he's roaming my house (he's really curious and likes to sniff at everything).

So would anyone have any ideas for other toys that have worked?

If you have the room you may want to move your rabbit from a cage to a large x pen. Often rabbits need space to move around in order to really have fun.

Take any large plain cardboard box ..large enough for the rabbit to go into and place it into the xpen. My rabbits spend hour after hour ripping and tearing their boxes apart.

Long into the night I hear the sound of ripping and tearing and each morning spend a lot of time sweeping up enormous piles of shredded paper.

If the cage is large enough you could give your rabbit a phone book; they also like to destroy these
Rabbits like to feel resistance when they rip

I have one rabbit that shreds small plain wicker laundry baskets thatI get at walmart
toys on the floorcan just be picked up and tossed and that gets old fast.

I have also used parrot toys attached to the side of the x=pen ...for certain rabbits that is some form of entertainment while other will ignore them;

:bunnydance: definitely the shredding of paper! i've also tried putting some of their pellets in a treat ball - dont know what you call it but the bunny has to work the food out. that said tho' my two rexes - roxy doe in particular - love a cardboard tube stuffed with hay:bunnydance:

So any phone book or magazine is ok? I keep reading that I have to be careful about what kind of ink they use.. where can I check that?

but cardboard box sound good... is it ok for them to ingest some of that? I bites at the boxes in my house a lot and he leaves shreds but I've also had to pull out some of the pieces from his mouth when he tries to eat them..

Thanks!!

Gus loves boxes. Little boxes with treats in them that he has to figure out how to get the treat out, medium sized boxes full of newspapers (or other paper) for him to dig in, and large boxeswith bunny-sized doors and windowsthat he can play inside of. He also loves newspapers, junk mail or any other paper that he might find laying on the floor. He loves to tear it into long shreds...and then eat the shreds... :p

He loves wicker baskets too. He loves to chew on them until he can "unweave" them. He also loves to eat them. ;)

He also loves blankets and towels. He loves to dig at them, or flatten them outwith his front paws. (It's really cute!:inlove: )

His last favourite toy is his large red rubber ball which he nudges around with his nose and then...er...dominates.

Almost every other toy, the plastic baby toys, the cardboard tubes, the specially designed bunny and bird toys, he ignores.

Hope that helps!

I just wanted to throw out grass mats too. My bun prefers cardboard, but at times he's really had fun chewing and digging on a grass mat.

He has a phone book, but only likes to sit on it for some reason ... but seems to like it if I rip out pages and crinkle them into balls first. Just get creative with some simple raw materials :)

On days when our kids are stuck in their hutches...they love to play with their teething rings. We found them at the dollarstore and they love to make a racket and swing and throw them...we hung a chain of them from the roof of their hutch and put some single ones on the floor.

We bought some childrens wooden stacking blocks...the ones with the alphabet on them...they love to knock them down when we stack them up...or just chew them...

Our kids absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE anything they can chew made out of grapevine or seagrass! Seagrass mats are the hands down favorite around here though...or sisal rope balls...we bought a big roll of sisal and tied itin knots and wrapped it up into a big ball...they love to chew and toss that too!!

Where do you buy the sisal? Making bunny toys could be fun and cheaper than buying them.

Another easy toy idea: The other day I took a toilet paper tube, folded down one end, and filled it with a few pieces of dried papaya (any dried fruit or treat would work though). I gave it to my bun and he went nuts trying to get the pieces out :)

I left one of the ends open so he would be able to get the food out easily (though it still took him a while) but eventually I'll fold the other end closed as well and he'll have to rip up the tube to get to the treats.

Where can you find wicker baskets? I saw walmart, but i thought they had to be preservative free and whatnot, or is any wicker basket you can find ok?
