Hello all!

My Jersey Wooly has a really tight mat right above her tail. I have worked a majority of the mat out with a comb and some scissors. However the rest of the mat is very close to her skin. I don't want to tear anything and I was wondering if anyone had any advice? I do have an electric razor, but I didn't know if it would be a good idea to attempt to use it on her?

She is indoor, so no fear of being out in the weather or anything.

Thanks for any advice!

It would be a good idea to shave it out with an electric razor. However, some of the small ones sold for people aren't powerful enough for rabbit fur. Make sure the batteries are new so it works as best as possible. Go slowly and be careful, I find that pulling the skin tight does help and helps prevent you from cutting the skin.

If you are not sure about doing it yourself, find a breeder, groomer or vet who has rabbit experience (preferably with the long haired breeds).

Sometimes if you can fit the teeth of a comb between the fur and the skin...you can use it as a buffer between the two and keep from shaving down too low or irritating the skin!:)

Thanks everyone! Yes the razor I have is for pet fur.
I'll try working on her again with the comb and scissors and then with the razor.

Thank you!
