Thumper, a Mini Rex, is three and she was spayed yesterday. I got her back at 4:00 PM. As I expected she was very quiiet and lestless. They gave her no pain meds but I had some left from Usagi's teeth trim. Since Thumper weighs about twice what Usagi weighs, I doubled the dose that was recommended for Usagi. I started her late yesterday on meloxicam.

She seems better today but she's not producing any marbles. She doesn't seem to have control of her pee. Her cage has a close-mesh wire bottom coated with plastic so the pee usually flow sthrough. She's been on that mesh floor for years with no problem with hocks. I put in a piece of cardboard and she wet on that and was lying in the pee. Her bottom was wet. I took out the cardboard and she's now grooming herself.

There is hay and pellets in the cage but she hasn't touched either. I put in some fresh greens, clilantro and parsley. Late yesterday and this morning she ate them but this afternoon she hasn't touched them.

Ever since she came back yesterday she has been drinking a lot more than usual. I am beginning to get concerned about no poop and that she's not eating hay or pellets. This may be quite normal and she might not be expected to eat until maybe tomorrow.

She does seem better today. Yesterday she was always lying down but today she is spending some time sitting and hopping around.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Do you have experience with a newly spayed rabbit?

I agree that you may want to discuss this with your vet. It is a good sign that she has eaten a little, is drinking and is moving around more.

I talked with Randy last night and he said she needed better pain meds so I called the vet and told them I wanted buprinex. It's an opiate which is strong and a controlled substance. I just gave her the first dose.

Even before I gave her the new med, she was nibbling this morning on a bit of hay. She had also eaten three leaves of romaine lettuce but left the stalks. Still no real poop but there was a small cecotrope in her litter box this morning.

She seems to be moving around more now. I'd guess she'll get better as the buprinex starts working.

Thumper is much better now. She's eating some pellets and she's made some poop. She's more alert, cleaning herself and moving around in her cage. She's also using her litter box. When she lays out now she stretches her legs outin comfort rather than crouching hunched up as she was before.

I feel confident that the crisis is over and she'll continue to improve. Another thanks to Randy's help. The meds did the trick.

Usagi is coming home tomorrow. I'm so excited !It's a bit less than two weeks now and it seems like forever since I saw him petted him and loved him. I'm going to hold off on any introductions to Thumper for at least a week, until she's healed from the spay.
