Ummm.....when my neighbor's pit bull attacked me, it wasn't the police that shot him, it was me. One shot, right twixt the eyes. And the simple fact is that I don't need a weapon to kill a dog, even a large one. And when a dog knows that, they typically will not attack.
The lads are well protected when we are out walking and in any event, no dog could catch them, even in the unlikely event that it would get past me. They have "in yer face"experience with dogs of all sizes and as the videos show they are not "scared" of dogs. Theydon't panic, they would just go home if needed. BunBun has actually goaded dogs in addition to going after cats. He lived as a wild rabbit for two months. He isn't stupid, he has his street creds and he is quite well trained. And he has an ill tempered 200 pound escort.
The other night, while we were out for a walk, the lads were a bit concerned when they heard a large boxer approaching with his jogging human. They picked the dog up about 400 feet away, those ears are quite something. No panic, we simply closed up our walking group so that the lads were right by me until the dog was gone.
One needs to have good threat assessment skills and make sure that you and your bunnies are prepared for what you might encounter in your area. I wouldn't take them to a park, with or without a leash. And if you take them out in a stroller, what are you going to do when two pit bulls start tearing it apart? A stroller is not an armoured car. Leashes and strollers have their place, but they are not the answer to all situations. The lads are well trained and acclimated to the threats in their hood. They are safest when they are free to do what rabbits do when needed, ie: run like the wind.
