A new chapter in my life has begin, the last ending with the devastating loss of my sweet Spice and this one starting with the gain of Aero and Mia to my existing bunnies: Mocha, Zoey, and Reese.
Most people probably know Mocha, Zoey, and Reese (and Spice)now. If not, their past blogs go by âThe Bunnies Have Taken Overâ.
Letâs start with Aeroâs story. I had hoped to bring a little cheer to my life and a little more purpose as well as a companion for Reese. I went to the shelter looking for an adult male bunny that had been there a while and had the least chance of being adopted. I found a little airplane-eared (hence âAeroâ) REW buck that was neutered and had been there for 5 months. He was a little younger than I intended to adopt (about 9-10 months) but he fit the bill. So I brought Aero home.
Then came Mia. Her story is a little more interesting. I had no intent of bringing a 5[suP]th[/suP] bunny into my home but it seems fate had different ideas. I went into Campus to study for the day, while I was there I overheard a group of people joking and laughing about the bunny they let loose on Campus. They claimed that bunnies were boring and that the landlord didnât allow pets so they let her loose. Well I sat and listened to their conversation until one of them mentioned where they let her loose, so I packed up my books and went searching for her. I was extremely lucky to find her in the general area where they left her. There was a cardboard box that I assume they left for her that she was still using as shelter but she was off a few yards grazing. At this point I had no idea how to catch her, so I slowly walked up to her and much to my surprise she didnât run, she just let me pick her up.
I walked back to my car and placed her on my car floor. I didnât have a carrier so I just hoped she wouldnât chew on anything important on the way home. She was really good the whole trip but getting her out from under my passenger seat was a bit of a problem, lol. When I got her home, I checked her over and she had some mats on around her tail (sheâs a teddy Lionhead). I trimmed about a handful of mats off and then continued to check her over. I got a big shock when I flipped her over â her belly is shaved and she has an incision from what I believe was a spay surgery and based on the looks of it, no more than a week ago. I havenât yet been able to rationalize why they would spay her and then let her go, but at any rate I am glad she is in my hands now.
So that brings my grand total to 5 bunnies.
