My Story:
Well hello there, my name is Marisa and I am from Edmonton, AB, Canada. I'm 21 (22 next Wednesday, if you forget I'll never forgive you! ) and am currently working on finishing my Bachelor of Commerce degree.
I have never in my life had a pet. Growing up both myself and my brother had severe allergies to cats and dogs, and my parents aren't exactly animal lovers. I, on the other hand, begged and pleaded with my father for an outside dog, a gerbil, a guinea pig, a rabbit... ANYTHING. I got fish instead.
I moved out in 2007 to start my university career, and since then I have been thinking about getting a rabbit and incurring "the wrath of Dad". I knew he would be FURIOUS. I came close about 10 times to just saying "Whatever" and doing it. But I never did.... until now.
March 2011 was rough for me, I went through a bad break up. The start of April rolled around, and my roommate started talking about getting guinea pigs and I started thinking about rabbits again. I started looking at the Humane Society's website, Kijiji (kind of like Craigslist, but more popular in Canada), pet stores... pretty much anywhere.
April 2 I found "Thumper". He was listed on Kijiji. His owners were getting rid of him because he didn't get along with their guinea pig, Lucky. This is what I first saw.
I IMMEDIATELY fell in love with this guy. I emailed her promptly and I picked him up the very next day. I brought him home, looked at him slowly and nervously exploring his new home and said, "You're not a Thumper... You're a Tobias." And so he became Toby (Tobias is saved for when he's in trouble).
Toby's Story:
I'm not entirely sure on his breed... I don't think he's a pure lop. I was told he is a Mini-Lop, but he's sitting at about 4.7 pounds now which is either a large Holland or a small Mini according to my research. He's orange with black stripes, and is now 1 year old as of September 3rd! He isn't fixed for a couple of reasons. A) It's very expensive (here at least). The cheapest I've found is upwards of $200. and B) I'm worried it will change his personality too much. Perhaps you all can give me some advice about that! (Photo of approx size)
He has literally changed my life. He brightens my bad days, and makes my good days even better. The change I've seen in him since I brought him home in April is mind blowing. Knowing that my love and care has brought out so much trust and such personality just makes me so happy. My friends all make fun of me due to the 100+ PhotoFacebook Album of only Toby. I am now the crazy bunny lady :confused2:
Fun Fact: Toby was just featured as Tuesday's rabbit on http://www.disapprovingrabbits.com (Scroll to the bottom, I don't think I've ever been so proud.)
I never expected owning a rabbit to be such a rewarding or life changing experience... He's my little monster and will be loved dearlyfor the rest of his life.
(Sorry for all the pictures... It was hard to pick only a few )
Looking forward to bunny talk with everyone!

One more for good luck!
