I don't think they know how gross it is because they are mentally ill. Its hard for me to understand it but like i said earlier, I compare it to an addiction. There is a show on right before Hoarders called Intervention and those people usually don't know how sick they are either. And it's hard for me to understand that too but I do know it's an addiction and a disease.

Oh, I've seen the ones with the grocery bags and the chickens. I could NOT imagine having my chickens in my house! Chickens STINK.
They're all in complete denial. I saw one where this old man had 20,000 books and pieces of sheet music in his house and he left one burner on his gas stove on all the time, to knock the chill off the house. I guess he didn't have heat. He didn't understand why people where so worried about fires, I couldn't imagine why he would worry, you know since he lived in a TINDER BOX. There were papers all around his stove, he had to reach over a 4 foot stack of books and paper to even turn the stove on. So, no thats not dangerous at all.

Its super sad to watch them, but I'm in shock when I see it. Its just unbelievable to me.

I recently saw the poop episode too. I honestly wanted to bleach my entire body just seeing that show....:shock:
