Teary Eyed and Mouth Sores

It's had sores for a long time but it specifically got worse recently. It's spread so that there's no more fur at the mouth. It also has one eye that has a line of wet fur under it.

What can it be and is there a way to treat it without going to a vet?

I don't have a lot of experience in this area, but runny/watery eyes are often caused by tooth abscesses iirc. not sure about the sores.

I would definitely recommend a vet trip.

I'm going to say that the bun NEEDS to go to the vet. It could be a tooth thing or it could be syphilis.
This should be treated by a vet, not at home.

It was fine for a while. The bottom of the mouth didn't have fur but it certainly didn't have scabs. Everything just suddenly got worse today and the eye was watering today and it didn't before.

My parents don't want to take it to the vet because right now we can't pay for it x-x

Do your parents have a good relationship with the vet? If they do, maybe they'll let them do a payment plan?

So are the sores coming and going?

The problem is that your rabbit probably needs antibiotics to fix this. Otherwise it will probably just get worse.

How much do trips to the Vet like that cost?

The cost of the initial exam, then the cost of whatever tests the vet has to do. Then cost of the meds needed to fix whatever the problem is. It can be very expensive, but your parents could maybe talk to the vet and make a payment plan.

yeah, many vets would rather set up a payment plan and have your animal in good health than have them go untreated when they're sick.

This calls for a vet. For sure. This looks alot to me like maloccusion. When a bunny's teeth get messed up, this causing them to drool which would cause the loss of fur and sores you're seeing. There is a very good chance you bunny is in pain inside it's mouth and has sores on his tongue as well.

Just as an example (since I would have no way to know what your vet charges) I had one of my bunnies to the vet last week for runny eyes and wet fur and skin under one eye. The exam with antibiotics and eye drops cost 76 dollars.

Like others have mentioned, I'm sure your vet will talk and accept a payment plan or just use a credit card.

Please take your bunny to the vet as I previously stated. My previous bunny citrus never had sores but had a wet mouth. Turns out he had an abscess in his mouth. I was at the vet everyday and he still passed away within 4 days and that was with vet care.

Have you taken your bunny to the vet?

You could call around and explain your situation to the vet, but your bunny needs to be seen ASAP. All of ours are rescues, and my vet knows that too, so we do get a bit of a break.
