As y'all know we lost Bun Bun earlier this week and sometime this morning we lost Munchkin, Girly Girl's baby. Somehow it got out of the nest....and into the next cage over where the doe there killed it.

Before someone goes telling me about "baby saver" wire - let me assure we had taken precautions so this would not happen. The other doe's cage is lower than the baby's cage - somehow the baby got OVER the protection and into the other cage because their wire was lower.

I know some will say "you only had the baby 9 days...so what"? The baby was already snuggling in my hand for 45 minutes at a time....and it was the 'dream' baby - having a charlie that was broken black and carried tort. Yes - I can rebreed...but Girly Girl did good to have the one baby born alive (the other two were DOA).....so there is no guarantee that another breeding will give me another charlie.

Anyway - sorry to whine at y'all. My point is - right now I just don't have the heart to post. I'll check in the rabbitry area frequently - but I just want to go bury my head and cry....

I'll be back posting regularly as soon as I can handle things better. Right now I'm just so devastated as the baby was going to be a major part of my breeding program for next year.

oh peg :(

I'm so sorry! You've had a horrible time lately. Something like this that you do everything to prevent and having it be the little one you were so excited to have ..... it's just insult to injury - let alone heartbreaking!

I know you loved that baby already and babies are ..... BABIES! that's hard in itself!

 Things just have to get better!
