I don't know if this is exactly the place to post this, honestly, since it isn't quite a CURRENT issue...but I wanted to ask a few things about SweetPea's leg.

I'm in the middle of trying to get information about exactly when SweetPea broke her leg in the past. I'm assuming it's over six months ago...but I'm not sure.

Apparently, it was long ago enough that it's healed completely...but she still sits with it out to the side a bit.

So, questions:

Is this because (a) it'd healed wrong, or possibly because (b) she was used to sitting this way with it?? I'll try to get a picture of it to post...

It's not horrible wonky, just sticks out a bit, and if I hadn't known she'd broken her leg, I might not have even noticed at first, and just chocked it up to sitting preference, or general goofiness.

So, is she okay? Should I get it looked at? Is this anything to worry about?

She doesn't walk funny, that I've noticed (kinda hard to tell since she's still too scared to come out of her cage completely), but in watching her hop around in her new NIC cage, I haven't noticed any problem with her jumping around (especially in the wee hours when she's shooting around her cage like a little blue-eyed-white streak of bunny lightning). I just wanted to ask ya'll to be sure, and see what you thought.

Thanks!

Hugs and love!

It might have healed wrong. Did they say how badly it was broken? Was she treated by a vet?

I would think she's ok, just have the vet check it when you get around to taking her in for a general check-up.

We had a very old man that had a broken back let that healed at 90 degrees from where it should have, and he was still able to run about and be as active as he ever was before. He used to go off his food when he was in pain (we knew that from other issues) and after the initial problem he never went off his food so it didn't hurt him.

He lived for 6 months with that, before he broke another leg, and we got him euthanised.

What I'm trying to say is, it's probably 'normal' to her, so I would get her checked over, but not worry overly greatly about it unless she appears in discomfort.

Okay, cool. I'll keep an eye on it, obviously. :)

Naturestee...she said it was broken enough to just be flopping around all the time. SweetPea was treated by a vet friend of hers. I'm not sure anymore than that...I'm still trying to get more information.

But, I do plan on mentioning it when I take her in for a check up soon.

Thanks, guys! :)

Maybe they didn't pin it and that is why it didn't heal so well. I had a bun break its leg and it was only 9 weeks because it was so young they couldn't pin it so just set it in a stooky but it healed fine. but if they didn't set it right it would leave it a bit wonky

Yeah, that's pretty much what I suspect happened. From the sound of it, she was quite young, since Analise said it was about a year ago, and SweetPea's first birthday was April 1st. So, it could easily have been that she was too young for them to properly set it.

Rosie i was told when it happened to Dido that it was a lot of luck whether it went back properly as he was so small especially being a nethie, i reckon i was lucky my vet was really good at stuff like that. He was a little bit pigeon toed but other than that you couldn't tell. but he did say it could easily not have worked half as well as it did.

The funniest thing is by the time it had been on 5 weeks he was growing a lot ( they had to leave the splint and stooky a bit loose for growing room) i had to smell his leg every day in case it was to tight it was a bit gross but luckily everything was ok:D

It's possible that she's experiencing pain or an arthritic condition in the broken limb.

My son fractured his collarbone over a year ago, and still has continual pain :(
