After a brief weekend last week of warm spring like weather, we got blasted with winter again. We get three seasons here ... winter, spring, and pothole season. :p It started to snow at noon yesterday and is still snowing today. Going out to shovel the driveway now.

Was at the Edmonton Humane Society yesterday, but couldn't report much as the internet was down and had problems getting on the forum. Had some pictures I wanted to post.

Then I had problems starting my Odyssey vanas the battery was drained, so we had to take my wife's car to a Banquet last night. People invite me to their banquets, and ask me to bring my camera.

Took today off work, as the boss is giving me more time off. He probably feels guilty having me work so much. ;)

My truck is down today. The brakes aren't right or something.

It's actually nice here - or ok - nice was a couple of days ago. It's overcast but 62° F.

I'm not moving fast today for some reason. I just feel blah.

Oh, that stinks. Not that I want to rub it in, but it was a gorgeous Palm Sunday here. This being New England, things can always change, but I'm holding out hope for a nice week and a sunny Easter...

I still can't believe I'm graduating in three weeks :thud:

Had to shovel the snow a second time tonight. :X Don't know how I'm going to drive to work tomorrow morning with all the snow. Might have to load some bags of wood pellets to weight down the van for traction. :p

Got my Odysseystarted so that is fine. :)

I'm confused.. Easter was a month ago. :?

I can't believe I start school again in 3 weeks, lol.

We got missed thus far by most of the snow but that's not to say the roads aren't bad up here - single lane (each way) highway with no passing lanes, no shoulders, and very poorly marked edges make it impossible to destinguish where the road ends and the ditch starts with even a small amount of snow. We still have a few inches but nothing compared to the rest of Alberta! I'm praying I can come home on Tuesday still, I miss my bunnies.

But as I always say... Alberta has schizophrenic weather. It can change in an instant. And go figure, last time I was home I shovelled the WHOLE back yard to get the snow to melt and by the time I left there was no snow left in the yard and now I have to do it all over again when I get back!

I have to admit, I kinda like throwing that curveball :laughsmiley: But seriously, for we Eastern Orthodox, this is Holy Week, and Easter (Pascha) is this coming Sunday. Orthodox Easter always follows the Jewish Passover, hence the major scheduling difference this year. It does feel a bit counter-cultural  The upside? Discounted candy!

I'm curious - what's Alberta like in the summer? From what I hear your winters just put Maine to shame :p, but what's the milder weather like?

Let me give you a taste of how our last summer was...

Nice days turned to be miserable in a matter of 10 minutes. It went from beautifully sunny to pouring so hard you couldn't see 5 feet. Add in the mix of hail and a few small tornadoes touching down. That happened at least once a week in the end of June/all of July. I was working at a barn and it just shocked me to one minute look out the door and see it all nice, go to bandage a horse or deal with an injuryand come out of the stall only to see it was miserable outside all the sudden.

Then again, out summers are getting crazier at time goes on. Until a few years ago I hadn't heard of that many tornadoes now it's a weekly occurance to have tornado watches and it's not uncommon to hear about 4 or 5 touching down every summer. It's funny actually, I was coming home from work one day last summer and we drove right past the tornado. It was really small but still, lol.

Okay, here is the creek behind our house after a storm surge came through. This was taken only 10 minutes after the rain started.

That creek is normally 1'-2' wide at most and maybe 8"-12" deep. In that picture it is at least 20' wide and probably 7'-8' deep.

Wow! See, New England has this reputation for having some of the most changing and unpredictable weather, and sure, things might change from the morning to the afternoon or from day to day. But we don't experience anything quite so rapid as that. Very interesting...

It's still snowing here. Driving is not advised if you don't have to go out. Heard on the radio, there were 16 cars in the ditch from the international airport to Edmonton, and that is only on northbound side of the freeway. Parts of thefreeway to Calgary was closed for a few hours.

Not going to tryto bring out my snowblower. There no where toblow the snow. My neighbor took his snowblowerout, and blew all the snow off his driveway onto the road. Now it is difficult for the rest of the neighborhood to drive by without getting stuck. :X

The highways west of the citywere actually really good this afternoon. I left work to come home at noon. The road down took me about 30 minutes longer than normal because it was so wet in areas and in other areas it was so slushy that I couldn't go faster than 50 km/hor I'd have lost control of my car. With all the snow piled up on the side from the plows the roads were acting like streams, it was nuts. But once I got onto the main highway it was really good, there was only a few areas of local light snow and a few areas where only one lane was completely clear because the other hadsnow driftscovering the whole lane.

Anyways, I made it home safe and I am glad to be back and to not have to make that drive again
