Can I please request that everyone use the spell check after typing up their replies. Sometimes I find it very difficult to read and understand what people are trying to say. PLEASE don't anyone be offended by this as I also make spelling mistakes. I do try to use spell check and if I don't and then reread my blog and find a mistake I will go to edit an correct it.

Also so many people use short forms, well some of us older ones on here (well me for sure) don't always understand what you are tying to say. Could you possibly type out the whole word. I don't mean something like LOL as I'm sure everyone knows what that means.

Thanks

Susan:)

sorry, im very ghuilty of this, my typing is awful at the mo.

My typing gets sloppy when I'm tired. I usually try to preview my posts before I send them off but I didn't realize the forum had a spell check option.

Hi, like i said I also make mistakes hey no on is perfect but sometimes their are some Blogs that are so hard to understand because of spelling mistakes and short forms, that some people have just never learned.

And yes XxMontanaxX I do forgive any spelling mistakes you make. ;)

***BUMP***

I had to bump this thread up, I hope people aren't offended by it, but can I please request that short forms (such as 1 letter) not be used. I find some of the threads so hard to read and understand. Maybe it's an age thing I don't know.

I honestly would reply to more threads if I could understand what people are trying to say or if I could make out some of the spelling.

I make spelling mistakes too so I'm not perfect but to sit down for 5 minutes trying to decipher what some ones says is a waste of time to me.

Thanks

Susan

I agree, but I also know that some people have been politely asked to type not as they speak, or with text speak, but in proper English.

I'm just glad I can type properly now :D (that took me four attempts to get that with no errors, lol).

I agree, it can be very difficult to read! Makes me feel old at times when I can't make out words and stuff lol!:p

Although, for some people it might just be easier for them. For example, my best friend is dyslexic, and she types and writes in 'text speak' a lot, because she finds it easier. She gets very embarrassed when she mis-spells things, and text speak is easy for her to remember how to spell, etc.

There is no spell check with the browser I use. Bummer.
I don't have the spell check option either. I try to use my best spelling and grammar! With ADHD, it's hard sometimes... Hehe. I get what you're saying though. It's really hard to decipher some of the posts when they are "condensed". :)

I do my best to decipher posts and most times succeed. But there are some that I just scratch my head and say "huh?". I can see using shorthand to text. Texting is all about the size of the message. We don't charge for using a lot of characters here on RO!!

Most browsers have a spell check function or they have add on spell checkers that you can download(Internet explorer has IEspell for example).

I think its more people aren't taking the time to reread through their posts once they type them out. It only takes a few seconds to go back and read over it. If it doens't make sense, edit it and correct the spelling errors. It takes less then a minute.

I am a horrible speller and even worse with grammar, so I always make sure I use the spell check function before sending in my posts. If your posts a legible and make sense, more people are going to be willing to answer you.

I will nearly always read back over my posts, I'm quite a fast typer so I often have spelling mistakes or write words that have nothing to do with what I want to say, it only takes two seconds to run back over it.

I found one! Woohoo :p, sorry, but this thread now has me on the lookout for spelling errors.

It's a bit annoying too when most of the forum spells different from me anyway, all the z's instead of s's, and the u's missing from words where I would normally put them, and the l's and e's around the 'wrong' way. I find a lot of forum spellcheckers only cater for US spelling.

Personally, I'm not bothered so much by the spelling mistakes, maybe a little more with poor grammar, but usually not so much I'll stop reading. (Unless it's really bad!)
I'm sort of a grammar nut, so I will notice some things that many people think are correct, but aren't. That gets on my nerves a bit, but I have to get over that. Many times I type the way I speak, which isn't always the best grammar!

But, when someone's consistently using text-speak, I can't read their posts. I'm sure they probably have legitimate things to say, but I get a headache trying to figure it out. Often I will stop reading a whole thread if someone is doing text-speak.
Maybe it's my "old age;" my best friend and I even type out most words when we're texting each other. Sure, something might be broken into 3 transmitted messages, but that's OK with us!

I think people are more concerned about the txt speak and short hand then actual spelling mistakes. Using "u" instead of you, leaving out vowels, lack of punctuation etc. That sort of stuff makes posts hard to read.
