Layla has started making a nest as well... As soon as my apartment gets signed onto so I don't have to keep moving them around she's getting spayed! I know she's not pregnant since Mumford (only rabbit she's been in contact with since 6 weeks) has been neutered for over 6 months and I did double check to make sure he had gotten the snip-snip.

Oh crazy female hormones... For now, I'm letting her keep her nest.

How's Sophie recovering?

I was only worried because I only got her two weeks ago. I didn't have any way to know FOR SURE she didn't have contact with a male at the rescue. Apparently because Houdini humped her she ovulated and thought she was pregnant. I imagine it is the same way for Layla, she thinks she is, but there's nothing to fertalize the eggs. I just cleaned up the nest so when I brought her home from the spay I could put a nice soft bed down.

She seems to like the bed I made her (blankies in a box, I know, high tech). While she was drugged she liked me and even SNUGGLED! Then they wore off and she started to plot my demise. Last night when I gave her the medicine she bit me. The more we interact I am becoming convinced someone was mean to her. I will pet up the nose and down the back. As I go over her ears she flinches, like she thinks I'm going to pick her up by the ears. Poor baby. When I hold Houdini she looks all wild eyed like I'm going to eat her husbunny right then and there. He will put his front paws on my shins to ask to get up, so I know she's not getting the fear from him.

I have to be patient, she has only been with us for a little over two weeks. So many big changes in her life, but I see glimmers of the sweet bun she wants to be. When I first held her at the rescue and again when she was drugged she gave me kisses. Also when I lay on the floor and read to them she will nose bonk and run, like she's testing to see what I will do. Time will let her trust and I'm sure it will be wonderful.

Sophie got spayed yesterday. Much to my relief she was not pregnant. However, she had a bunch of follicules on her overies so she THOUGHT she was pregnant. Thank goodness Houdini is shooting blanks :)

Apparently Houdini layed next to Sophie all day at the vet's office. Now at home any time either of us go into their room Houdini runs over to get between us and Sophie. It is so cute that he's all protective. Last night he spent a couple hours grooming her from head to tail, she seemed to like it.

The vet also couldn't get enough of Sophie's dew lap. They played with it when she was sedated because it is just irresistible. :)

:thumbup

It sounds like she'll come around eventually. I'll keep my fingers cross she won't keep plotting your demise :p

Hold on to that snuggle time, because when you get it again it'll be so worth it. So worth the struggles of earning a bun's trust. :)

Glad Sophie did so well with her spaying operation. And you are so right. You haven't had her long and it will take a bit of time. But you saw that glimmer of love for you and that's a plus!

K:)

I wonder if animals are like humans. Sometimes people who have had nothing become hoarders. Wonder if that is what is happening to Sophie, she may also be wanting to redecorate her home to her own liking, kind of a "bride" thing.lol

This literally made me LOL :laughsmiley:

My Tinky bun made a great nest once. I was freaked out; I thought she was a boy at the time! And she kept escaping so for a while, I did worry that she met some strange vagabond rabbit somewhere...

It was amazing. She pulled out too much fur making it, though. It was so lush she could hardly fit in it anymore!! I let her keep it, but I stopped supplying her with straw. I was worried she'd keep pulling her fur out. She was obsessed with it, and I got some great footage of her building it! Turned out to be a false alarm which was great. I haven't seen any rabbits around so I didn't worry too much. I only worried that something had upset her to cause her to pretend to be pregnant! Oh I miss that Tinky Bun and her nests...

Well, Sophie still likes to make nests but now I don't worry since she is spayed. I have decided to let her keep the nest as long as she doesn't mess in it. So far she has been getting better and better at the litter box.

As Sophie's tummy feels better and her hormones settle down she is also becomeing more friendly. Last night she jumped up on the foot of my recliner. I shouldn't have let her jump, but I was shocked that she did. Stayed just long enough to say hi, but she's getting there. :)
