Sophie's Humble Servant

The only sounds Sophie makes are tooth purrs and water slurping and squeaks.

Today I was sweeping out her condo with a small broom and pan, I do this every morning.

Usually while I'm doing this, she jumps to another level in her condo or she hops out of the condo to do her exploring.

Today she stayed there while I swept and she wouldn't move. I was sweeping very close to her and suddenly she made this noise! It sounded like a bullfrog croaking...there's no other way to describe it. It was so weird. She didn't move, she didn't look like she was mad but what is this noise and why did she do it? It was pretty loud too! The croak was a bit over 1 second in length. It also reminded me of the sound of my husbands animal calls he uses for hunting, deer or elk or something.

Did she disapprove of my sweeping?

I would think that it was either grunting because she was upset, or because she was nervous about the broom being near her.

Awww poor Sophie:(
I'll make sure to wait until she moves next time.
I wasn't expecting a grunt to sound like that, how weird!

Thank you:)

How is Sophie today? Many bunnies don't like brooms in their area, and will protest. Some will lunge, others may bite at the broom.
Perhaps she was moody after her Vet visit. Is her nose still running? It was cold and windy that day. Usually when I transport rabbits, I would place a towel over their carriers.

It's what passes for growling or grunting--a definite sign of displeasure. The only time Finn would do that was when I was vacuuming his hutch as he considered the hose to be his nemesis. That is the only time my sweet little boy used to act out. Sure do miss him.

Hi,

She was fine after she came home, nose stopped running. I have a blankie I put over her carrier but yeah it was really windy that day!

How did you choose Sophie when you adopted her at the shelter? Was there other rabbits that you considered? I volunteer with the rabbits and I am trying to recall when she was there. What was her shelter name? Did you talk to the shelter staff (probably Alyssia) who would handle and know Sophie the best.

I adopted her last April 7. She was at the humane society twice before I adopted her. Her name was Sophie, I kept her name. As soon as I saw her I knew I would be adopting her:) She was surrendered because of extreme fearful behaviour. She also wouldn't bond with her previous humans nor did she like their other rabbit or dog.

She's been wonderful with us. She's gained a lot of confidence and she loves my kitty:) I can't believe she was given up twice, it's just unthinkable to me.
