After seeing Rosie's thread on the RenFaire coming to her town - and my thread about renewing our vows at a RenFaire next year.....I thought I'd ask who else is a RenFaire fan and some other questions...

Here goes...

  • What RenFaire(s) do you go to?
  • How long have you been going?
  • Do you "participate" by acting along with them? (I know Zin does but I didn't know if there are others here who do)
  • Do you "participate" by going in some sort of costume?
  • Do you have a favorite memory or memories from going to a RenFaire?
I'm hoping that there is more of us on this forum than just the three of us that I know of.....

I'll answer the questions later for myself....

Oh - and if you've never been to a RenFaire but have questions - feel free to ask them here.....

Peg

P.S. Oh - if you go to other "reenactments" like Civil War, Revolutionary War, etc - share about them here too....

I went once but want to go again. First time no dressing up this year I will!

I am getting a dressed made!!! My brothers girlfriend's mom makes them! Amazing work! Oh I am getting them made cause a friend of ours is having a costume ball wedding.

I am a total RenFaire fan :)
I've been going to King Richard's Faire in Carver Mass. since I was 13, and I dress up every year. I'm usually a gypsy. I know I have some pictures from one of the years we went. I'll have to dig them out and scan them. :)

Aha - I knew I'd pull out other RenFaire fans with this post.

DO scan the pics and share them (if you want)...

Lord.. I do Ren Faires.. I also do Dickens on the Strand in Galveston, I do French revolutionary renactments, LOTR stuff... I been a Barbados pirate, an elf, a druid, a wood elf with mossy hair, green lips, serpent eyes and fangs..I been the golden hind, painting myself all gold and wearing furry leg warmers, deer antlers and all leather, I have been a scantily cladbarbarian queen in my younger and firmer days, I have been a drow... all silvery skin, white hair, lashes and eyebrows, this past year I was a an ice queen. I have also been a viking with a metal bra..

My most embarrassing? I go to Comic Con dressed as a fantastically spandexed dark phoenix resplendent with red hair and fiery contacts. I have been a Jedi, and a steampunker.. and tank girl on occassion..

yeah ima dork...

I meant to say this - I grew up in CT and never heard of Ren Faires when I was growing up (or even after I left home).

Ok - I fess up now - I'm 47....but still yet...

Any idea how long the one in Carver, Mass has been going on?

Just curious.....

I can hardly wait to see your dress...I hope you share it with us.

I know we're planning to go two days this year and trying to decide on two outfits is killing me.....there are so many good deals on Ebay too!

Will you have pics of the wedding? That would be interesting to see...

Ren Faire? Did someone say Ren Faire?

The PA Ren Faire is top-notch. I worked there a number of summers for a friend who has a shop there. She makes the most lovely embossed velvet items. She's got an on-line business...will post a link for you all who might be interested in taking a look at her lovely items. Many of the designs on her products are originals (she is quite the artist).

I have a fabulous velvet dress with celtic knots and kitties, which I helped to emboss. It has been a few summers since I have worked for her, but the Ren Faire is still a fave place of mine to spend a day.

We take our 7th grade students there every fall...and in the spring we host a Medieval Day at school for them...so I think I'll be dusting off the velvet soon...

A link to the site of The Millinery where you can order period patterns and other items you may need to adorn yourself for your Ren Faire outing.

http://www.bymichelle.com/

And a link to the newest site (still under construction) where you can view / order gauffered velvet finery (all hand made, one-of-a-kind wearable art)

A bit costly (but what original art isn't), but you get great service. Michelle stands behind every item she creates.

My fave for a dress...

Instead of red though I would want this blue....

Or this dress...

Again same blue.

I like flowing sleeves verses poofy. Square low neckline.

This for my hair. Nice and Simple.

The red I would want blue, the gold in silver.

I've never been to a RenFaire, but have gone to a lot of the war stuff (French & Indian, Revolutionary, Civil, WWII).
