Scary... to say the least!!

I'm glad you're okay.

This is why I love my dogs. They bark at anything that comes near our house.....including the wind (which can sometimes be annoying).

A few months ago, there was some guy wandering around in my backyard.....so I let the dogs out. He made it to the picnic table and climbed on top of it and started yelling for help.
I called the cops, and then I went out and confronted him with my trusty baseball bat.
I waited until the cops arrived before I called the dogs off.

Ended up that he was a real estate guy, and he was at the wrong address.

Troy is fiercely protective of our family. He's never bitten, but he isn't afraid to show you his teeth if he thinks you're a threat. I had a scare one evening when we were running cross country in the next town over. A man was lurking around where I run, and Troy is never on leash when we run together. Troy stopped in front of me and wouldn't let me go any further without grabbing my sleeve.

I backed off looking for what the scare was and the man came out from around a tree and Troy stayed between us. He moved about a body length in front of me with the man out probably a hundred yards and bared his teeth with his fur up. The man raised his hands in an "I surrender" way and Troy started barking - that fur and tail up, tippy toe ferocious barking that police dogs do.

He's never been trained in protection, but his command for "stop what your doing" is "out!" I started walking backwards and got my keys in my hand and kept my eye on Troy till I was still within sight but beyond the tree line where I could see my car. I called Troy Out! and he snarled a last time and raced back to me and we got in the car and called the police.

I would have run right into that guy if I hadn't had Troy with me. Me. Who's already been assaulted once. Murphy's Law right? I'm not saying getting a dog is right for everyone, but after my life was tested in this way I knew I wanted a dog. That's the reason I chose Troy and he's my best friend and protector. I raised him and trained him and put all the love I had into him, rather than all the hate that writhed inside me. People who get dogs because they hate someone or something and want protection from it only create monsters.

I wanted a friend that would stand at my side and fight with me if need be.

That would never work with my dogs. Fluff would wag her tail and lead them to the crown jewels. Smudge would bark from a safe distance. Like behind me or under the kitchen table.

I wouldn't have my dogs any other way. :big wink:

Aaaw Arden I love your dogs. <3 Shelties.

I would love to have a dog one day. They make better guards than cats haha.

Congratulations on your job but HOLY HECK! Now I am SO GLAD I have my little 38 revolver sitting half loaded in a spot that shouldnt be provided lol.

Very Glad he didn't try anything!!

Glad you're ok!

I don't go outside unless I have one of my dogs with me or another person. Found out there's problems with trafficking in the city I'm staying in. I may get some pepper spray just to be extra safe. :)
