I am posting this question on behalf of one of our GRR fosterers. We have a 7 month old spayed rabbit rabbit that has very smelly urine. The rabbit is healthy and doesn't exhibit any symptoms of UTI. Can anyone suggest what might be causing this and whatcan be done?

I haave heard of EC causing urine to have an odor, but the scent glands should be double checked and the bunny seen by a vet.

Toby, my neutered male, has smelly urine--always has. The vet says he's healthy so I just try to deal with it :/ One thing I do is place a litter liner underneath his Yesterday's News, and that actually helps with the smell.

However, I have heard from other members on here to try putting a few drops of vanilla or vinegar in the bunny's water to help eliminate odor. I haven't tried this method, as I'm afraid it will discourage him from drinking.

If the urine smells 'eggy' (sorry - I can't think of a better term) that is usually indicative of a bladder infection. Sometimes the urine may smell stronger depending on food, especially with herbs.

Yes, now that I think of it I have heard of the vanilla trick. It also makes them want to drink more. I think the rule is 1teaspoon per gallon of drinking water.
