I've noticed one of my girls has seemed a little less energetic than usual. Today I thought her poops looked quite small so I picked one up and it is like a tiny little rock. She's sems to be eating and drinking. I just noticed the low energy and then the poops.Does this sound like a symptom of an illness?

Hmm, watch her water and food intake.Offer her some very wet vegetables tonight to try to get her to get a good amount of water in her.

Sounds like the start of stasis maybe- try to get her to eat lots of hay and fiber (maybe some canned pumpkin).

Watch her activity level, if it's way down, I suggest a vet trip if it's combined with her not eating and all these small poops.

Also see if she's in any pain - grinding teeth or pressing her tummy against the floor... if she is, it could be some gas and simethicone would be a good start.

Definately keep an eye on her food/drinking.

Edit: Usually when I notice my buns have tiny hard poops, I start with some simethicone, canned pumpkin, a bit of critical care and lots of wet veggies. Usually I will also see a yucky hair filled poop at some point in the near future.

Loki often gets like that when he's shedding a lot. A daily dose of canned pumpkin usually brings him back to normal. I guess he just needs extra hydration to keep all the hair moving through. You could also try flavoring her water a little, to get her to drink more. Other than that, like Nadia said push the hay and keep a close eye on her.

I've given one of my other buns simethicone with a syringe, but he put up quite a struggle. Could I mix it with applesauce or yogurt and have her lick it up that way?

I'm really surprised about the struggle as my rabbits LOVE the taste of it.

I would think you could mix it but I'm not sure.....

The only time Oberon was ever aggressive was when I had to syringe gas meds into him. He hates it!

Would she lick it up if it was mixed in canned pumpkin? I'd avoid yogurt (not digested well), a tiny bit of applesauce might be okay if it's unsweetened. I'd avoid too many treats right now just in case.

I accidently put my container of pumpkin in the freezer. Is it still good if its been frozen and unthawed? It was my last can :( When you massage their stomach, do you focus on the lower area, the area by their ribs, or the whole thing?

Angela- I picked up a Zoom Groom on my way home tonight. Hopefully that will start to get some of this fur out!

P.S. How long does moulting last?

From what I've endured, a couple months at least.Snuffles is going through one now :scared:. The fur I've pulled from him is ungodly, really. I think he's blowing both coats:shock:. Poor thing.

Aaaargh! Does it happen every year? This is the first time i've had a bun where the shedding was really noticable.

I believe it's every year and actually twice a year . Ha ha. fun, fun, that's why when warm,I prefer outside, the natural breeze helps out with the removal :zoro.

frozen pumpkin is fine if you thaw it out. Also, try to push as much hay as you can. Maybe put some in a kleenex box, paper towel roll etc so its fun for her to chew.

Re: Pumpkin, my little diva prefers it (ha! demands it!) dried out and warmed up. So I wrap it in a paper towel and I'll warm itin my hand or in themicrowave.

Re: the massage, just avoid the upper rib cage.

There's a diagram under 'Anatomy' in the Health section of the Library.

EDIT: (I meant 'under' the upper rib cage, btw. You don'twant much pressure on the kidneys or stomach).
