Somewhat of a long story, about 2 months agoafter getting gus's nails trimmed at the vet i noticed a hairless spoton his back. It had scap with a little blood, i figured he stratchedhimself too much one night. The vet said not to worry about it,that it wasnt mites or fleas, but if it got worse to give them acall.Since then hes had the same spot, it doesnt really everchange, nor had the hair ever tired to grow back, it looks as if thewound is too fresh to try to start hair growth.Lately ive beenputting a little bit ofneosporin on the spot hoping to help itheal faster, didnt seem to speed up the recovery.I cant figure out whatit might be, i havent changed anything in his enviorment ( bedding) orhis food. Here are some pictures of the spot on hisback.Whats so strange is i dont he can reach this area of hisback to pick and or scratch it. His fur looks greasy by the site due totheneosporin, its not a puss or anything...Im just not sure whateles i can try and or if i should just go into the vet and have themlook into it more.thank you all sooooooooooooo much for your help- you guys are awesome!!!P.S. hes acting completely normal, eating andinteracting just fine, and doesnt act as if the spot hurts when i touchit to apply theneosporin . I also have more pictures but for somereason its not letting me load more than one file...Jenny

Chronic wounds that won't heal are generallycause for concern. The rabbit can reach that spot, so I'mhesitant to advise any medications that may be licked off, but I'dcertainly have the vet take a look again.

Some options - a dry wound powder and collar for a couple days to prevent licking.

Starsky had a spot like this, almost in exactlythe same place but his wound was a bit smaller. He had all the testsunder the sun but we could never establish what it was. Luckily ithealed up but he kept pulling his fur out around the wound, licking it,etc - I think he became obsessive about it! Thankfully it has allcleared up now and his fur has grown back - alebit a slightly lightercolour.

When the vet looked at it she thought it could be ringworm - I wouldrecommend another trip to the vets to test forparasites/ringworm/infection.

So i got gus a collar and some vitamin E ( toplace on the wound directly) . The vet thought it would be a good ideato see if it improves this way. I figured if i dont see any improvementin 4 or 5 days i'll take him in to the vet. Do you guys think thats areasonable game plan?I feel so bad for him now...hes really notliking the collar, he looks like an astronaut- it makes me laugheverytime i look at him.

Ah bless, he still looks beautiful even with the collar.

I think your plan is reasonable. If there are no improvements or hegets worse then a vet trip would be in order. I didn't know you couldget collars for rabbits - I'll bear that in mind if I ever have anysimilar issues.
